06/05/2015 Day 4, still in Ypres and following the war graves. Nigel found 2 family members.

Maximum temperature 15C, minimum 6C in Ypres. Intermittent storms and hail, very, very windy again.
Every night at 8pm in Ypres at the Menin Gate they play the Last Post.  There must have been at least 2000 people there last night.

Lijssenthoek cemetery. About 10,500 graves, about half of which are unknown soldiers!

Nigel with a 19 year old family member who never came home.

Tyne Cot cemetery.  Another 12,000 graves!

Belgian road obstructions are the same as France!

Ypres is going to be packed in the next few days when they celebrate their 3 yearly cat festival!  It takes over the town it seems.

  1. I'm pleased that Nigel was able to find his relatives. I'm sure that it made the experience that much more personal and profound. Do you have a sign on your car which says "slow tractors please go ahead of us"? I think I used to in France!

    1. Craig we actually have quite a few from the family to look up. This particular one though is fairly close on our family tree. I am sure the tractors look out for us!!!
      Hope all is well Diane
