14/07/2019 Wow what a weekend of sport, but I managed a quick walk out early before it go too hot.

Maximum temperature today 27C, minimum 16C.  Dry. 18km/h North-easterly winds with gusts up to 43 km/h.  Still, no sign of rain in the forecast for the next week so lots of watering!!

My first photo was of the neighbour's gladiola.

A little further on I saw this flower that I have been unable to ID.  I found an identical flower on the internet that said it was an orchid but nothing further,  I am not convinced though that it is even an orchid!

Common chicory, (Cichorium intybus)

Blackberries forming.

I think this is a Marbled white (Melanargia galathea) but it was still for barely a second for this photo.

Meadow brown (Maniola jurtina).

I think this is a cranesbill from the geranium family...

as above,

Saint John's-wort.

Cattle keeping an eye on me....

as is this youngster number 88...

and I guess dad is also being watchful as well.

Maize.

Making hay while the sun shines...

and obviously, it is coffee time.

Sunflowers in abundance...

and the bees seem to be enjoying them.

  1. Doesn't look like an orchid to me. I remember when we were in France a few years ago driving past field after field of sunflowers. It was really quite spectacular. The high here was 27 today too. Probably not too often we have the same temperature, Diane.

    1. I agree, but the only photo I can find of it says orchid, I need to do some more research. 27 28C is just about perfect though I woke at 4am this morning very hot! I also love sunflowers they are spectacular and they always have happy smiling faces 🌻 Enjoy the week, Diane

  3. Beautiful image though I can it looks dry in the fields. Hopefully you get some rain soon. We had unexpected rain for a short spell today after 2 days of very hot, humid weather. We weren't expecting rain until the weekend so it was a nice surprise.

    1. Thanks Penny it is very dry, and from almost too much rain it is now gone to extremes the other way. We have not seen rain now for weeks and I am struggling to keep up with the watering in the vegetable garden. The rest of the garden has to take pot luck and the lawn is look pretty brown, though the weeds still seem to thrive!!!! Have a good week Diane
