03/03/2017 Back home, no daily photos but a few of our trip to Johannesburg and on to Botswana and Zambia.

Maximum temperature 19C, minimum 7C.  65km/h SW wind. 60 mm of rain while we were away and high winds that have blown the covers of the wood pile, also the compost bins seem to have taken flight over the hedge!
28/01/17 Male African Black Masked Weaver bird (Ploceus melanocephalus) making his nest for the female.

31/01/17 Our friends Ginger Abyssinian cat Mika. Amazing eyes!

02/02/17 It is not a stick insect at all as I thought, but a short-horned grasshopper of the Acrididae family.  There are 356 species in this family but unfortunately not all of them have been given scientific names yet.  Thanks Joan.

03/02/17 Zebra - Botswana.

04/02/17 Black Backed Jackal (Canis mesomelas) Botswana

05/02/17 Sunset on the Chobe river - Botswana.

06/02/17 Victoria falls as seen from the Zambian side.

07/02/17 Puku (Kobus vardonii) - Chobe Botswana.

08/02/17  Elephant close to our accommodation at Elephants Sands Botswana.

  2. Brings back fond memories for me. We spent a whole moth in SA a few years ago and birded pretty much the whole country, including Lesotho and right up to the borders with Swaziland and Lesotho. Great trip.

  4. Your photos are fabulous, you must have had such an amazing time, makes my recent trip to Cyprus look very tame. However Cyprus is worth a visit if you do get an opportunity.
