22/05/2017 Another day busy in the garden, this could become habit!!

Maximum temperature 25C, minimum 11C.  12 km/h SW wind.   Some rain this morning not measured as yet.
Bumble Bee in the sage.

Hummingbird Hawkmoth (Macroglossum stellatarum)

Mirabelle plums - 6 trees laden!

The quince tree also looks very promising.

Climbing rose.

Snapdragon.

Sweet William on a background of sage - spot the bee.

  2. The Hummingbird Hawkmoth is spectacular. I have only ever seen one of them.

    1. I have to agree with that comment, but I do think that the Broad-bordered Bee Hawk Moth (Hemaris fuciformis) is even more spectacular if possible. We get a number of them here especially when the lavender is in flower. Diane

  4. How do you get those insects to look right at you? Fantastic macros as always. I could almost smell the roses.

    1. Ha ha they keep an eagle eye on me to make sure I do nothing they do not like! The roses do smell good but last week we walked around gardens on the West coast that were drenched in rose perfume, it was amazing. Hope all OK there, Diane
