01/06/2017 Cherries taking up most of the day so a few more photos in the garden.

Maximum temperature 24C, minimum 13C.  8 km/h SE wind.  5 mm rain measured this morning.
My favourite of the day, two hoverflies on a very pale Californian poppy.

and the Carpenter bee (Xylocopa violacea) runs to a second favourite.

Azalea.

Bind weed, pretty but what a bind!

Clematis.

Day Lilies.

Meadow brown (Maniola jurtina)

Small Heath (Coenonnympha pamphilus)

As above.

Small Tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae)

As above.

Dianthus in the rosemary bush.

Red Dianthus.

Sweet William...

as above with a hoverfly.

No matter how many we pick there are still thousands though the rain is rotting a few.
Our neighbour said "beaucoup" (a lot) and how right she is.

  3. The colors in your photos are always so vibrant. Great shots of the butterflies, bee and hover flies. The flowers are gorgeous and your bowls of cherries, love their color, the yellow bowl makes a wonderful contrast.

  5. I think I would reverse your favourites with the Carpenter Bee being number one, but it's a close call. I hope picking all those cherries isn't wrecking your already bad back.

    1. The carpenter bee is more common than 2 hoverflies on the same bloom :-)
Picking the cherries is not a problem, standing de-stoning,cutting in half and lining up on the trays in the dehydrator is not good for it!!! Sitting is impossible as I have to move around too much from one place to another. Thank goodness Nigel helps or I would never manage. Hope you have a fantastic weekend Diane

  6. I can see why it was hard to pick the favourite between the hoverflies and the bee. Awesome photos!

    1. Thanks Lynda, I like the softer effect of the hoverflies but I guess it is a matter of taste. I think it is one of the best photos I have ever taken. Diane

  7. That first shot is like 3-D. Amazing how you get such clear macros. I saw a couple of Carpenter Bees today along the Bright Angel Point trail but they are way too fast for me. I really like the Day Lily. I'd be eating so many cherries I'd surely have a belly ache.
