Maximum temperature today 19C, minimum 13C. Rainfall 29 mm measured since my last post; 12 km/h South Westerly winds with up to 34 km/h gusts.
Total rainfall since 1st January; 557 mm and still raining!
I went for another walk today just before the heavens opened, but I have not had a chance to finish the photos from the last walk so here they are. We both spent yesterday painting, I was working on the lounge walls and Nigel rubbing down and painting the front door. Despite using English paint, (French is useless) it all looks like a second coat will be needed (sigh!).
Poppies (Papaver rhoeas)
As above
As above.
Fern.
Unknown, but I thought very pretty.
Also unknown, but unusual.
Gorse. (Fabaceae)
Foxglove, or it seems also called Lady's Glove. (Digitalis purpurea)
There were two fairly large birds sitting in this tree, once I got close enough to take a photo all I got a view of was the nest!!! I will try again!
There were two planes playing in the sky above me as I was walking, the other one was a bit higher and not a good photo.
Meanwhile back home this morning after the walk.
When I read these accounts of you two painting - and it seems to go on forever - I am glad that I decided about six or seven years ago that my days of doing my own house maintenance were done. We had our entire house painted inside - they sent a crew - in two days the entire job was done. It was worth it! We sat and sipped wine while they climbed ladders, affixed masking tape, cleaned brushes, laid drop cloths etc. I vow never to touch another paint brush as long as I live!!
ReplyDeleteIt is going on forever, mostly because the weather is so rubbish, and the light is impossible to work in. I could not stand a crew coming in here with all the furniture moving that would have to be done. We have too much, and it needs to be moved away from one wall at a time including some quite large paintings. I also must say that the two of us make far less mess than the odd painting job that we have had done!!! A 200-year-old plus, house is also quite quirky, many odd little places extra to paint!!! I am just fed up that the paint is not covering on one coat! Cheers Diane
DeleteIt's awful when you finish painting a room and look around realising it just won't do, been there Diane ☺ It's going to look fab when you have finished. I was right, that little glimpse of your garden through the raindrops looks wonderful ✨
ReplyDeleteThree coats on one wall now and I can still seeit is not perfect....... Have a good week. Diane
DeleteSo many pretty sights and I am always grateful you share them with us. Thanks Diane!
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise. It is a pleasure. Enjoy your week. Diane
DeleteThe poppies are such a nice bright red. Interesting pictures.
ReplyDeleteI do love poppies at this time of the year, So bright and cheerful. Take care Diane
DeleteHate home renovations, especially painting. We helped our daughter paint three rooms recently. I felt like I’d been beaten when we finished. Evry part of me was sore.
ReplyDeleteI am fed up and the paint is not covering as I would expect it to!!!! Take care Diane
DeletePoppies flowers are so pretty but it is banned in our country!
ReplyDeleteThey grow wild here so not sure how you would stop them!!! thave a good week Diane
DeleteColor everywhere and I love it. Bright pops here and there makes everything so pretty.
ReplyDeleteYou are right I love the bright colours of summer. Take care Diane
DeleteBeautiful photos, Diane. Oh, I LOVE POPPIES!!!!!!!!! Kisses, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mia, I also love poppies. Take care Diane
DeleteHi Diane. The poppy photos remind me of the farmlands of the OFS where they grow wild in great swathes on the fields in springtime. Lovely photos. Durban has settled down to its normal winter weather now, dry, sunny and warm but cool to cold at night. Hope your cough is cured. Kim x
ReplyDeleteOh dear, oh dear!!
ReplyDeleteThe weather is really getting on my nerves too... As I right, another storm is coming down and I fear power cuts again... :(
I am happy to go back soon to Botswana!!
Your photos of the poppies are beautiful!
I wonder to what birds the nest belong although my guess would be magpies, but who knows!!
Yes, I agree, leopards and wild dogs are always high on my wish list and I still have to see the latter... Maybe this time!
Warm hugs Diane, and keep well :)
It seems that we are both having endless rain. I'm glad you were able to get out for a walk and some photos. I've never seen a field of poppies in bloom myself...only lovely photos such as yours. They are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAlways so many beautiful flowers. Haven't seen Foxglove in decades where it grew in the wilds of Washington state. Does seem like you've gotten your fair share, or more, of rain.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean about not having workers or painters over because so much needs to be moved. I have the same issue living in a smallish condo. I am not a minimalist in decor, so that makes it even more difficult. I prefer to do everything myself as much as possible or get some friends/family helping. That means everything takes so much longer but done when I can squeeze it in. I'm far behind! I hope you can finish your painting and still be able to enjoy some summer. Hopefully the sun comes out long enough there to help you with both. Have a lovely week.
