22/01/2019 Cars, Bath and around Devizes

Saw this Morris Minot in the car park the other day.  Having owned one in recent years I still have a soft spot for this icon of the car world.

The Paragon in Bath.  My grandparents used to live here in the 1940's.  They actually lived in two of the houses here at different times but I cannot now remember the numbers.

Love the Minor but the Porsche is still our favourite.

On the bridge over the canal.

An energetic rower,  I guess the upper half is keeping warm. Just wondering how cold the feet maybe!

Devizes cemetery...

Gorgeous old building.  There are various dates for the opening here but it dates from the mid-1800's

A drive-by sunset.

Back at the canal...

A working narrowboat.

Dogs meeting, owners invited.

A watering point, and I presume originally a drinking trough.

Out for a walk away from the dogs 😊

One of my FIL's ex-carers took pity on us all and arrived with this lovely bouquet of flowers. Thanks George much appreciated.

Devizes is a truly historic town and so full of history.  I try not to put too much information on the photodiary, so I have posted more about the town (part 2) on My Life In the Charente 2 with lots more information which might interest many of you.

We return home at the end of the month and I am not sure when I will have time for another post but will probably see you in February.

I have updated my bird blog HERE.

  1. Lovely pictures. Old cemeteries are often picturesque. I have to say that is one mean looking cat.

  2. I am sure that the flowers were very well recieved. It is perhaps not an entirely masculine thing to confess, but I love to have cut flowers in the house, and a friend of mine, who felt that I had done favours for her, sent me flowers recently. I was delighted! Your visit to England seems to providing many pleasant diversions. Please continue to enjoy your time there.

    1. I agree flowers can brighten the day. We have a bunch of daffodils in the house as well which are very bright and cheery. FIL is a big struggle and we are both still not 100%, we will be glad to get home, but it is not going to be easy for my SIL who arrives the day before we leave. We have to get back, N's passport is about to run out and must be renewed and our medication is also getting low! Keep warm Diane

  5. Beautiful photos from around Devizes. I like the dogs meeting and owners invited which makes me smile. I am sure the dogs wouldn't want to have anything to do with that black cat. So thoughtful of George to send flowers to cheer you all up. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  11. As always, an inspiring assortment of photos in this post, Diane. Given the choice between the 'Moggy' Minor or the Porsche, I'm afraid that I'd have to choose the Moggy. I don't think, with my back, I'd be able to get in and out of the Porsche without dropping the roof, and the number of days it would be sensible to do that in England are a bit limited - especially at this time of year!

How thoughful is George - arriving with those fabulous flowers!!

    Have a safe journey home - - - - Richard

    1. Richard I loved my Moggy but I also loved our 356 Porsche. No problems driving them in Africa lots of sunshine :-)
The neighbour also brought us a bunch of tulips which are lovely. We are worried about the weather for our drive, it does not look good. Keep well Diane

  17. Hi Diane, nice to see all your photos even of the snow! I was in Paris in early January and I found the weather much warmer than Vancouver though it was grey and cloudy most of the time. I didn't mind because I had to do so much walking at the tourist sites. I'm now in Kenya where it is super hot and dusty. I see all the cold snaps in Europe and in North America and it seems so unreal since I'm in a heat wave. I also saw on the news that flowers are blooming and sun in shining in my hometown. That is a bit early for us so am not sure what will be happening when I get home. Take care and enjoy the remainder of your time in England.

  18. I am so jealous of you being in Kenya. I only briefly visited it many years ago when flights were short and we stopped to refuel there...... I have seen so much of Africa from the North to the South, but very little at the top in either the West or the East. Enjoy while you can, Diane
