21/03/2018 Out for a drive and lunch with friends.

Maximum temperature today 9C, minimum -1C.   Dry; 16 km/h North Easterly winds with up to 45 km/h gusts.  Still bitterly cold winds, despite blue skies.
Passing by La Rochefoucald and the chateau...

On the road towards Montbron...

The Mairie in Montbron....

and the building next door which I do not know what it is.

A 1965 Panhard in the car park where we all met.

Back on the road passing ploughed fields...

A very large wood pile - maybe expecting an even colder winter next year!....

Driving through Varaignes - Each November they hold a turkey fair in the town, where after a great meal, plus wine, the locals get up on a stage to compete in the traditional 'who can make the best turkey noise'.  It must be an hilarious event!

also driving through Varaignes...

and driving out the other side.

A very brave man in front, driving an MG with the roof down!!! Brrrrr.

A mid morning stop in Saint-Estèphe for a morning coffee.

Back on the road; passing stables...

Hoping that we do not meet a car coming the other way...

A natural tunnel...

Crossing a river - I do not know which one it was...

The church at Bussiere-Badil; Church Notre-Dame de la Nativité.

Twenty two of us enjoying lunch at Roussines.

Back home, the first cowslips of the year are appearing by the roadside.

I have a new blog entirely committed to our feathered friends.

31/01/2018 Grey skies but sort of dry so we decided to just get out and go for a drive. It was good to take a relaxing break.

Maximum temperature 11C, minimum 5C. Misty but sort of dry!  North Westerly winds; 16 km/h with up to 40 km/h gusts.

Just leaving home.

The small village of Yvrac.

The church Saint-Saturnin at Sornin (plus a digger!).

The bridge going into Marillac-le-France.  The two animals on the left are Llamas.  There was a whole field of them.  Wrong side of the car to get a good photo as we drove by!

The Mairie (mayor's office) at Montbron...

also in Montbron.

Leaving the Charente and entering into the next department of the Dordogne.

The 12th century church Notre-Dame de la Nativité at Bussier Badil. This looked like an interesting town, maybe we can plan a proper visit here and look around. No this is not blue sky it was the tint at the top of the windscreen!!

The church at La Tricherie.

As Above

Not sure where this was in the Dordogne but we were fascinated by the leaning chimney!!

Javerlhac.  More windscreen tint!

This was seen in a field all alone.  It looked like it was possibly a private chapel and a very pretty building.

A ghost sign for Peugeot.

Back in the Charente and nearly home looking across the fields.

For those interested I have started a series of photos taken on Nevis in the Caribbean here.  Both Part 1 and Part 2.  More to follow

Our neighbours sheep as we leave home.

The church at Montemboeuf,  Dark clouds and a bit hazy.

The sky cleared a little -  Bridge over La Tardoire river.

Welcome to the Dordogne.

Forests of the Dordogne.

Dark clouds driving back home.

Driving through the centre of Montbron...

as above.

And finally our usual road hazard :-)

Maximum temperature 29C, minimum 14C.  8 km/h SW wind. Very Dry.
Country roads and brown, dry fields!

Entering Montbron.

Le Tardoire river !!!!!

Hiding the wall damage with a patriotic flag.

The big pumpkin at an estimate was about 75 cms diameter (2'6"), seen growing by the side of the road.  Obviously trustworthy people around!

The Mairie at Vouthon.....

and the War Memorial.

We really do need some rain!

Watchout for falling rocks.

St Sornin.

Last night's sunset.
