17/05/2016 A magical visit to Tesseron Cognac in Chateauneuf-Sur-Charente. Merci beaucoup Frėdėric for this special day.

The entrance gateway.

Tesseron Cognac nameplate polished daily!

The founder, Abel Tesseron.  It is very much a family business and he is the grandfather of the present owner.

In the distillery...

as above -spotlessly clean!

The complicated distilling process simplified.

the eau de vie starts its life in new oak barrels...

It then gets moved to the large vats where the cellar master makes a decision on how long it should be there, before it is moved into old oak barrels to mature into the cognac that you will know.

Ageing in old oak.

The oldest cognac in the underground cellar which the monks originally used as a church in the 11th century.

After about 90 years the cognac is moved into glass demijohns. This particular cellar is cognac from around 1900.....

and here are the demijohns from about 1873 !
These get used in small quantities to blend the cognac that you can buy today.

  1. Maybe my taste will change as I get older but so far, I really don't like Cognac or any strong alcohol. Good post though!

    1. Good to hear from you Joan. It was an amazing visit, we were so lucky to meet Frėdėric when we were on holiday last month. He was on the table next to us at lunch and we got chatting. It was all explained to us from start to finish, and in English which made it so much easier for me! Great day out. Hope you are well, Diane
