Le Verre y Table is a restaurant on the road to Cognac in Jarnac, so it was just under an hours drive for us, but we wanted to try a new place and enjoy a drive.
Interesting name, literally 'Glass and Table', but pronounced as 'Veritable' it means true.
Outside.
Inside - we were early as usual so I could take photos before there were many people around... Outside at the back was very quickly filled up, but as there was a cool wind we preferred to sit inside
All the bottles on the shelves were different types of Cognac, take your pick :-)
The bar with the owner in the background. A very friendly person who also offered to take a photo of us, see below.
The wall on the opposite side with a collection of copper pots and pans.
We chose the menu of the day, The starter was my favourite, beef tartare, with lovely brown bread rolls (See top corner right).
As there was a long drive home we decided to only have a glass of wine each
The main course was fish with vegetables on a bed of rice.
Dessert was chocolate mousse in a pastry case, with strawberries and sorbet. As Strawberries do not agree with me I had the mousse with a lemon sorbet (delicious) - no photo. This was followed by an extremely good cup of expresso.
Playing with reflections in a mirror...
which was just behind me on the wall.
Excellent meal, average price, certainly a place we will return to.
Great photos and meal Diane. Just a leisurely drive away!
ReplyDeleteA pretty dris also through grape country. Have a good week, Diane
DeleteHow nice to see a photo of you and Nigel who are both looking extremely well. The restaurant looks very lovely and interesting and I really like the name and play on words. Have a wonderful weekend Diane.
ReplyDeleteOnly when we returned did the name actually register. It was a good trip out with the sun shining despite the cooler wind which most people seemed to enjoy! Hope you have a happy week. Diane
DeleteOnce again you have found an unusual place to eat.
ReplyDeleteWe do quite a bit of research when we decide to take a lunch time drive :-) Take care Emma. Diane
DeleteAn interesting place; no tartare for me though. LOL
ReplyDeleteLovely photo of you and Nigel; the perfect couple.
xoxo
You either love it or hate it and I am the former :-)) Take care Diane xx
DeleteWell now that is some really fancy looking food! Cool looking place.
ReplyDeleteInteresting with lots of interesting 'bits and pieces' around. Have a great week, Diane
DeleteAaah thank you "friendly owner!" At last I see a photo of Diane and hubby. The restaurant looks so clean and peaceful. The food does too. I love the take on the name: veritable. Great post, Diane. Have a great day further. Jo
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo :-) not often either of us have a photo taken!!! The food was excellent, and yes it was spotless with friendly hosts. Hope you have a happy week. Diane
DeleteConversation between Nigel and Diane:
ReplyDeleteDahling, let’s eat out.
Oh yes let’s do.
Bring your camera so we can snap,it and flaunt it.
That Gascoigne chap in Canada will be green with envy.
Let’s get in our new car and go to the restaurant in air conditioned comfort.
We should have at least three courses with wine.
Oh yes.
And cheese, lots and lots of lovely cheese.
Almost makes slow WIFI worthwhile.
A lovely place to have a wonderful tasty meal. You and hubby look great! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy for the kind comment. Hope you also have a good week. Diane
DeleteWhat an elegant restaurant and the food and wine looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteIt was a really nice place good food and it was a pleasure to be there and served by such friendly people. Cheers Diane
DeleteThe perfect meal! I love the way the French have delicious but small portions, there's nothing more off-putting than a huge plate of food being put down in front of you. I think the French air agrees with you Diane ✨
ReplyDeleteGrace that was the one thing I hated about America. Even a salad was big enought to last me for a week!!! We both love France :-) Hope all is well Diane
DeleteLooks like a great place with tasty food.
ReplyDeleteExcellent Pam and we we certainly return even though it is quite far. We like to get out for a drive in a good summer's day. Enjoy the week Diane
DeleteLooks like a delightful place to have a meal, which looks delicious.
