09/07/19 Just around the garden. Plus one photo out on the road.

Maximum temperature today 28C, minimum 17C.  Dry.  21km/h North-easterly winds with gusts up to 47 km/h.  No sign of rain in the forecast for the next week so lots of watering!!

We saw this stunning sight while out on the road.

Back home bumblebee on the sage.

Crane-fly on the Californian poppies.

Bubblebee on the cotoneaster.

Bee on the cotoneaster.

Meadow brown (Maniola jurtina) on the lavender.

Hopper on a Calendula.

European Wall Lizard (Podarcis muralis).

Bombylius species on the lavender.

Gendarme beetle or firebug (Pyrrhocoris apterus).

Web spinning garden spider, possibly a Cross Spider (Araneus diadematus).

Hydrangeas.

Raspberry,

The flower of the succulent Echeveria, not that pretty but interesting.

Quinces.

Hazel nuts.

and last but not least another wall lizard. (Podarcis muralis).

  3. That field of red poppies is enough to take your breath away, and that red raspberry makes me wish we had some for dessert tonight.

    1. David they did take my breath away, the setting was fabulous. I love raspberries but they do not sadly love me so Nigel eats most of them. Sometimes he makes coulis so I can enjoy them on ice cream, it is the pips that do not agree with me! All berries are a problem! Hope you are having a good week, Diane

    1. The poppies were just fantastic and the setting behind was pretty good as well. Yes, even the lizards are not coming out in the heat of the day they seem to be out mornings and evening!! Keep well Diane

  7. Great shots...We call the crane fly a gallon nipper. Why? the long legs allow them to sit upon a gallon jug and since those legs are so long they can dip their head into the gallon and nip a nip of whatever is there....

  10. "Poppies. Poppies will put them to sleep. Sle-ee-p. Now they'll sle-ee-p"!! Quote from the Wizard of Oz. Beautiful sight to be driving down the road and see that sight. Love the Hydrangea also. One of my fave flowers. Mine are gone already. Beautiful pics.
