06/08/2019 Just around the garden.

Maximum temperature today 27C, minimum 14C.  Dry.  11km/h South-westerly winds with gusts up to 30 km/h.

Sorry posts are getting further apart, I seem to be so busy with the garden and other things,  visitors on Thursday and then friends arriving from the USA for just over two weeks and we will be sightseeing.  Will post when I can.

Crab spider in waiting....

This small insect walked right over the top of the spider without it moving, obviously not tasty...

Then along came a fly and supper was served...

As above.

Hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum)...

As above...

and yet another one.

Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui)...

As above.

Bumblebee on the agapanthus...

and on the lavender.

Small white (Pieris rapae).

Bee on a pumpkin flower...

As above - plus a little insect...

and a little closer, see there is another bee right at the bottom.

Not many roses this year but this one has a fabulous perfume.

Hibiscus.

Sunflower in bud.

Remember I said I had an unknown plant, I now know it is a self-planted melon.

Tomates.

Yellow courgettes.

The almost new moon taken 4 August.

    1. Penny there is so much planned over that two weeks and they are here, and they have already spent a week walking Paris and various other places. If only Nigel could walk, but he can't, so we have to plan accordingly. Hope you are well, Diane

  4. The sequence with the crab spider and its prey is quite remarkable, Diane. It's been a long time but I think that's how Miriam ensnared me! She just lay in wait and snapped me up! Fortunately she didn't make lunch out of me!

    1. So glad she did not make lunch out of you 😊 I was delighted to get a second sequence with the spider, just a lot of luck involved at right place and right time. All the best to you both, Diane

    1. We have several crab spiders around. This is probably the biggest one I have seen but it is still fairly small by spider standards. Thanks for the visit and the comment. Diane

    1. There are dozens of Hummingbird hawk-moths around on the lavender. Taking photos of them though is quite a challenge as they just do not keep still for a second! Have a good day, Diane

  8. Oh wow I've not seen a hummingbird moth before Diane, the Painted Lady is gorgeous. You really just have to step out into your garden to get wonderful macros. I knew the orange rose would be super perfumed, they nearly always are 💛 Enjoy your visitors, if it's the first time there for them they will be enchanted ✨

    1. The humming bird moths are quite plentiful here, the Painted lady not so. First time for them in France, they have walked the whole of Paris and Mont St Michel already, still have a few places to see before they arrive here on Sunday. We will then be frantic here for the next 2 1/2 weeks..... Keep well Diane

  15. More wonderfully uplifting photos from you, Diane, and you've captured the Humming-bird Hawk-moth again - I'm in awe! I can't resist a Painted Lady. I'm pleased to say we are getting them in our garden now.

Don't work too hard, and keep well. With my very best wishes to you both - - - Richard

    1. I believe there are a lot of Painted Ladies in the UK this year we only have a few. The Hummingbird Hawk-moth is simply luck, not really any skill attached to it I can assure you. Not sure how often I will be able to post in the next few weeks but I will try one more entry before our guests arrive.

Hope you are feeling better and the latest appointment has brought forth good news. Take care Diane
