20/01/2021 Not really much going on!!!

Maximum temperature here today 10⁰C, minimum 4⁰C.  Dry.  27km/h South-Westerly winds with gusts up to 58 km/h.   90% chance of rain forecast for the rest of the week and possible storms tonight.

Not much chance of walking for a few days.  Yesterday we had blue skies and 10⁰C,  I walked a new route.  I somewhat misjudged it and ended up walking 14.25 kms!!!  I stretched well on my return and felt fine afterwards!

Crepuscular rays seen on a walk earlier this month.

Just looking across the fields.

Looking down at our local village.  The tall square building, left central is the bell tower of the church.

Those of you that saw my photo of the nene (Branta sandvicensis), also known as Hawaiian goose just before Christmas, will know I was worried that they would not be around after Christmas. You will be pleased to know that they are still about!

Still around despite the frosts Oxeye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare).

Turkey tail mushroom (Trametes versicolor).

Morning frosts.

Seen out walking, think this may be a Falabella, it is as broad as it is high, but so cute.

Next door - Spring is in the air...

Fungus - possibly panellus stipticus.

I just liked this photo of the view with the gorse in the foreground.

Take care everybody, keep well and stay safe.

My local list of wildflowers. (90 Species 23/08/2020).

  1. Great post. I love to see the Crepuscular rays piercing through the clouds. Hawaiian goose and Falabella are new to me. Nice frosty leaves. Cute lambs jumping about. Have a great day.

    1. Hi Nancy, not often I ver get to take a photo of the sun's rays so I was pretty happy with this shot. The lambs are adorable. I hope all is well over there, keep safe, Diane

  2. Hi Diane ... lovely views around with some really interesting subjects ... the geese, the Falabella - amazing looking animal - little lambs scuttling in the very early Spring. We've had a few heavy frosts ... but always so pretty to see ... and so interesting to see the various fungi ... and I love gorse ... the gorse over the Cornish granite moors is always beautiful to see. Enjoy the walks whenever you can get out ... stay safe too - Hilary

    1. Thanks Hilary for the kind comment, I will be glad when the flowers and the insects return to give me more variation. The Gorse has been flowering since long before Christmas, not sure what goes on there!! Confused by the weather. I hope that you are managing well with keeping safe, take care, Diane

  3. It seems early for lambs, but they are a joy to see gambolling around the fields. Little do they realize they will be lamb chops on somebody's plate soon. It is delightful to accompany you on your walks, Diane, but I have to confess I miss your accounts of lunch with the mayor, games of Scrabble, and all those other joys from a previous epoch! Remember them? Hopefully, a needle will find its way into the arms of many before too long, but I am not holding my breath! Stay well, stay safe, stay warm, drink wine, eat cheese. Bonne soirée. 1. David our neighbour always has the bulk of his lambs born in January, though the late ones seem to go on for sometime. We also miss the lunches and the scrabble, in fact we miss not being able to go out for anything. I am lucky I can walk and the 1km radius has been lifted, but it would be good if Nigel could walk as well, I feel sad that he cannot get out with his feet. Lock down though remains in every other way with a 6pm to 6 am curfew. I will be happy to see the insects and flowers back to give me more variation of photos.
Stay safe, yes bonne soirée to you as well. Diane

  4. I envy you and your walks, Diane, and the wonderful observations you have made. Beautiful photos, and 'cute' is a most suitable adjective for that pony/horse.

Had my first, since 10th Jauary, departure from home this morning - a walk of a mere 0.7 km to post a card to my Brother. The rules are so vague here that I'm not sure what I am allowed to do. I'm confident in being allowed to walk from the house, but it seems that if I take a camera with me I have broken the rules as it no longer classes as exercise. Taking the car to somewhere relative local where I can safely walk also seems to be dubious.

Read today that our council area ranks in the top 17 in England for increase in infection rates - particularly worrying when 296 councils are registering a drop in infection rates!

    Take great care and stay safe - - - - - Richard

    1. Richard I am enjoying my walks but would love to have someone to walk with. That though is not allowed unless it is family and Nigel's feet will barely take him around the block. We can, so far as I understand, only go out in the car for shopping which we do fortnightly, no deliveries here in the country. I am not sure about taking a camera, but I have been carrying the little Nikon Coolpix S7000 which is in my pocket so it is not visible.

I still think this is going to go on for a long while yet, all the new variants coming in seem to be spreading faster than ever and still so many people who are not being careful.

My FIL in the UK at 99 has had two vaccinations, but there is still doubt as to how good they are it seems. We were a bit slow on the uptake here as vaccines were running out, but I have been told that I will get a phone call in early February. Nigel is too young!

Keep safe, both of you, hopefully things will improve quicker that I expect! Diane

  6. Sheep and goat babes are so much fun to watch when they play. Love the rays on what looks like a beautiful sunny day. But even though we love those days, a frosty pic is always pretty.

  7. Oh it's so good to see your photos again Diane, you live in such a pretty part of the world. Everything looks so beautifully lush and green compared to our poor dried up earth, can't remember when we last had rain. Delightful series of shots of the lambs gambling about 💙 Chilly weather with blue skies is my favourite kind 💙 Happy weekend to you both ✨

    1. I hate chilly weather, I seldom complain about it being too hot. Think the only time I ever did that was in Las Vegas, and I am ill every time I go near air con, so it was not a good place for me! I will be glad when the insects are back, very difficult to find enough for photos at present. Take care ans stay safe, Diane

  9. That first shot is pure magic! And the frost made me shiver with delight. You are so good at closeups. I want to pet the pony and sheep. Your walk was quite ambitious, and beautiful as well.
