Maximum temperature here today 16⁰C, minimum 10⁰C. Dry but very grey skies. 21km/h South-Westerly winds with gusts up to 74 km/h.
I have not been out walking since last week when these photos were taken. The very high winds have been a problem and my eyes, despite wraparound glasses, just water all the time and I cannot focus on where I am going let alone focus on the camera.
At home the Viburnum tinus is in flower.
and the first crocuses.
Out walking it was a little misty to begin with but it soon cleared.

Seen outside somebodies house.
The little stream is still flowing very fast.
Muddy puddles everywhere....
and the cattle are still standing in mud.
A pleasant surprise was seeing about 8 Brimstone butterflies at various places along the walk, only one settled long enough for me to get a photo. (Gonepteryx rhamni).
Many hundreds of Cranes (Grus grus) were flying overhead, but I was only carrying the Nikon Coolpix so photos were not easy to get. Even more so because most of my walk was through the woods and the trees were in the way! Good to see them returning to the North.

Seen in somebodies smallholding. With thanks to Richard we believe them to be Emperor Geese (Anser canagicus), presumably, these have been domesticated.
Flowers were in abundance, Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) above with a bug.
Gorse (Ulex europaeus).
Lesser Celandine (Ficaria verna)
Persian Speedwell (Veronica persica)
Sun Spurge (Euphorbia helioscopia).
Unknown fungus.
And a sunset that surprised me at the end of the day.

Great pics, Diane! The lambs are adorable, they were my fave thing when I grew up on our Ohio farm! So cute! The flowers are so pretty, nothing like flowers to put a smile on your face! And the sunset, magnificent!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have a couple of feet of snow on the ground and it has been bitterly cold, so definitely no flowers and no walks here. Starting to warm up this week though, thankfully!
Thanks Pam for the comment, thankfully we have not seen snow this year but anything might happen yet! I also love the lambs, they are so adorable at this time of the year playing away without a care. Our spring flowers are definitely popping up but a cold spell again might be a big problem!

ReplyDeleteHilaru I have always had a problem with wind and eyes, it was even more difficult when we cycled a lot as then I really did need to see where we ere going. It is actually classed as a town and it has a mayor, but no shops of any sort. An English lady started a little tea room just over a year ago, but of course with COVID I wonder if she will survive! DeleteIt really looks like spring there, Diane. We are still locked in winter here and received another 5 cm of snow yesterday. It will be a while before we get to enjoy the kinds of scenes you are showing us in this post. Interesting that you saw the Brimstones. Our first butterfly is almost always Mourning Cloak, known in Europe as Camberwell Beauty. I hope the winds subside and that you are able to get out and walk more often. Take good care. David

Spring is definitely on it's way Diane. 16C is quite a nice temperature if the sun is shining also. I know what you mean about watery eyes in the wind. Btw how is your cough these days, mine is back! Lovely photos of your area. Year watery eyes are a problem with me too even when I put drops in too. The lambs are gorgeous and it sure looks like Spring is in the air.
