15/11/2021 - I am jumping to November photos at present...

The maximum temperature here today is 11⁰C, minimum 8⁰C. Grey skies. Wind 16km/h icy North-Easterly winds with gusts up to 32 km/h!

I have so many photos from September and October, hopefully, over winter I will have time to go through them and catch up with the past!!

10/11/21 A French sunset but memories of a South African one.  Taken from just down the road from the house.

Common Carder Bumble Bee (Bombus pascuorum) I think...

As above.

Tapered Drone Fly (Eristalis pertina) with a Western Honey Bee (Apis mellifera).

Mexican Orange Blossom (Choisya ternata).

Cosmos (Cosmos bipinnatus).

Cosmos and Californian poppy with a couple of bees and a fly, still flowering well in mid-November

Remembrance Day November 11 2021

Before the service started, this little Jack Russel who obviously belonged to someone in the village, just wanted to play.  He was so cute.

As the service ended the Common Cranes (Grus grus) flew overhead calling as they headed South to warmer climates...

As above.

Love poinsettias (Euphorbiaceae pulcherrima).

A trip into Angouleme last week and I spotted this new (to me) wall mural.  Love it, and more memories of Southern Africa ...

A little closer...

and finally.

Take care everybody, keep well and stay safe.

    1. Sorry Marie, we just seem to have had so much going on. Many of the photos I have to go through need ID's and that all takes time. Hope all is well over there, take care. Diane

  2. Hi Diane. Your sunset opener is fabulous! The macro work on the insects is exemplary, and the artistry of your flower photography is wonderful. How uplifting it must have been to see those migrating cranes too.

I'm not quite sure what to make of that mural. It seems to have been extremely well executed, but I'm finding it difficult to interpret the presence of the human in the image. The prehistoric creatures above today's mammals is also strange. Perhaps I'm missing something?

Best wishes to you both - stay safe - - - Richard

    1. I often find murals a bit strange Richard, there are a few very odd ones in Angouleme, this is probably one of the least strange. It is huge, it is at the end of a large building that has no windows in the end, it is at least 8 stories high, possibly higher.

Thanks for the kind comments on the photos, I suspect this might be the last shots of insects until spring arrives, it has turned very cold. I always miss them in winter!!

Keep safe, and very best wishes to you and the family, Diane

    1. Thanks so much for the visit and the kind comments. I find once the weather gets colder I have to look elsewhere for subjects. Roll on Spring. Keep well and take care, Diane

  4. Hi Diane - what a wonderful collection of photos - thank you for the Remembrance Day Service in your village ... so important for our life today. The African sunset - gorgeous, cosmos poppies also remind me of SA, that mural is amazing - do you have further details? Cheered me up on a grey day here ... I'll be over to your wildflowers and birds anon ... cheers Hilary

    1. Hi Hilary. No sorry no details on the Mural. We went in for Nigel to meet someone only to find the place was closed!!! We drove past the wall and we had to park far-away for me to walk back and get the photos. I saw no sign of a signature. To celebrate Angouleme's history with the love of art, the city commissioned murals on many of its buildings, both private and municipal. I cannot see any signatures on them at all!

Yes cosmos used to grow down the sides of all the roads in Southern Africa, I grow them every year, but this year they seem to have done really well with the heavy early rain fall.

      Cheers and take care, Diane

  5. The sunset is so spectacular, Diane, and I am glad you captured it. I keep trying to remind myself to pay more attention to sunrises and sundowns but I never seem to do it. The cranes too are the stuff to make my heart beat a little faster. Now, if only you could get hi-speed internet! Bonne journée.

    1. David I don't mind if we don't get hi-speed internet, just internet that is a little faster than 0.5 would be good !!
I try to keep an eye out for sunsets, but because we have a Velux roof light in the office, if I am there, I am inclined to miss them. If I am downstairs I just keep an eye out of the windows for a cloud formation at around the right time. Sunrises are more of a problem; we have several barns on that side of the house and I need to go and walk past them all to see what maybe happening. Also, as I go to sleep so late these days, I often sleep through it as well!
      Bonne semaine, Diane

  7. How delightful you still have flowers, the Cosmos are my favorite. Maybe because they remind me of SA, as does that wonderful mural.

    1. Oh I also love cosmos, such wonderful memories of seeing them down the roadside in RSA. An unusual mural for France but I love it. :-) Keep safe and enjoy retirement, hugs Diane
