04/02/2022 Lunch at the Moulin de la Tardoire *****

The maximum temperature here today is 11⁰C, minimum 6⁰C. Rain, misty and cloudy. Wind 15km/h Westerly winds with gusts up to 32 km/h.

We had a very enjoyable and relaxed lunch today at the Moulin de la Tardoire.  Excellent service and delicious meals, but what would you expect from a restaurant that now has a Michelin star. It was faultless.

Did I mention above that it was misty?

Arrival at the restaurant, the water wheels were turning.

Inside, the reception.

Some of the tables downstairs...

the gear mechanism for the water wheels and the old millstone.

To our delight, we were seated upstairs, where there is a fabulous view despite the weather..

Every table had a Gerbera daisy.

Amuse Bouche.

Entrée - Pork cheek with a vegetable broth and creamed cepes, and a wafer of parmesan.

Main - Cod, trout and vegetables in a delicious spicy sauce.

The cheese board with quince jelly.

Dessert - Tarte with dry winter fruits and nuts plus a hot wine sauce (très bonne).

Coffee and mignardises.

The weir across the Tardoire river.

Walking back to the car park,

I went for a quick walk over the bridge and looked back at the restaurant behind the trees...

and looking the other way I was surprised to see so much colour in the shrubs/trees.

the 15th-century chateau on  the opposite side of the river,

There is a choice of 3 different menus, this is the one we chose which was the menu of the day.

Cheers.

  1. You will not be surprised that I am absolutely green with envy at this fabulous meal you had. We are in a motel on the way to meet my daughter, son-in-law and grandson tomorrow to go searching for owls, and then back to my daughter's house in Ottawa for a couple of days. I have to go out and find something for dinner that I can bring back to the room. I can assure you it will not rate a Michelin star!

  3. Now I am really envious, Diane! That menu looks wonderful and I was quite surprised by the price - I was expecting it to be at least twice that, on the basis of Michelin starred restaurants in UK (although I am not familiar with such things). That location is fabulous too.

    Best wishes - stay safe - - - Richard

    1. Haha, yes we could do it. The tables were well distanced. Everyone wearing masks away from the tables and the staff were fully masked. As safe as it could be out and about but..... Cheers Diane. P.S. hope your back is improving.
