20/10/22 A mix of photos from early October.

A climbing rose amongst the topinambour flowers.

Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas) on a calendula flower.

As above on a cosmos.

Goldenrod crab spider or Flower crab spider (Misumena vatia) on cosmos.

Orange habanero chillies growing in my greenhouse. Hot stuff!

Pampas.

Unkown rose.

Calendula.

Common Wall Lizard  (Podarcis Muralis) on the sedum waiting for a snack!

Small white butterfly (Pieris rapae) on a white cosmos...

As above.

I have no idea what this tiny bug is, if you have any idea, I will be happy to hear from you. I am guessing it is from Suborder Heteroptera. On a calendula.

I discovered this female trying to get in the back door. I moved her on a bit of cardboard to a safe place. The Marbled Newt (Triturus marmoratus) is a mainly terrestrial newt native to the Iberian Peninsula and France in Europe. Despite ongoing threats to their habitat from agricultural intensification, the species is considered to be locally abundant in parts of the Iberian Peninsula; however, in northern and central France, the species is considered to be endangered...

As above.  A very slow mover she was about 14 cms in length...

As above...

As above,

08/10/2022 New moon with that I belive to be Jupiter directly above it.

Just some of my spices in the kitchen.

  2. Absolutely wonderful photos of the Small Copper, Diane, and your flowers are gorgeous too, but the stars of the show for me are the lizard and the newt - especially the newt !!!. What a beautiful creature!

Impressed by the range of your spice rack - even if there are lots of duplicates there ;-} Also impressed by the fact that they're in alphabetical order. You must have a bit of a dilemma if you get one pot with the the label in english and another of the same spice with the label in french!!

Best wishes to you both - - - Richard

    1. Thanks Richard and I was just so excited to see that newt.

Re the spices, no doubles there and I still file in alphabetical order regardless of language. Garlic under A for 'ail' and tarragon under E for 'Estragon'. I don't have a problem.

P.S. we had fibre installed yesterday, we have gone from 00.5 to 99.97, I can't keep up with it 😊

I hope L soon sorts out the problem. Thinking of you and best wishes Diane

  5. Hello Diane. I can't remember the last time I saw Newts and Lizards. Well I can, it was Menorca but we don't go there anymore. I fancy trying one of your hot peppers and I can imagine they grow fast and in profusion where you live.

    1. Hi Phil, these habanero are extra hot. We love very hot and spicy food, but these, even I take extra care with. I have never seen a newt before so this was a very special sighting for me. I am hoping she hibernates in the garden and then finds a male close by. Keep well and take care Diane

  6. The Marbled Newt is new to me, Diane. What a gorgeous creature. I hope that it continues to do well and that agricultural intensification doesn't claim any more of its habitat. It makes one wonder what other creatures are similarly threatened because habitat loss for one is habitat loss for all. Rapacious humans know no limits. I always knew you were a spicy girl and now you have furnished the evidence! Hugs from Ontario - David

    1. Hi David, the newt was a first for me as well, in fact I have never seen a newt before so this was a very special sighting for me. It is sad how many animals are endangered in this world and 99% are due to human intervention. The two legged homo sapiens is the worst animal of all. I remember driving through game reserves in RSA seeing rhinos around every corner, now you are lucky if you see just one!

P.S. we had fibre installed yesterday, we have gone from 00.5 to 99.97, I can't keep up with it 😊

Keep well and stay safe, hugs from France. Diane

  7. Beautiful close up of the flowers and insects. Very interesting Flower Crab Spider. If not for the close up, I would have missed the white butterfly against the white flower. I didn't know that there are so many spices because I only use a few spices.

    1. Thanks Gaelyn, I so nearly missed that white butterfly, I spend my time chasing them away from the kale as the little caterpillars can eat it almost faster than we can! I fell in love with the newt, a first sighting for me and it was so cute. Very slow so easy to move to a safe place. I use all the spices we love spicy food 😊 Hugs Diane
