24/05/2021 A few bugs around the garden.

The maximum temperature here today 16⁰C, minimum 9⁰C.  It just keeps raining!!!! Over 100mm in the last fortnight.  Very windy with 31km/h  North Westerly winds with gusts up to 74 km/h.    More rain forecast.

A slightly bedraggled speckled wood butterfly (Pararge aegeria).

Rosemary beetle (Chrysolina Americana) pretty but sadly a pest.

A Dock Bug (Coreus marginatus)...

As above.

The caterpillar of The Lackey moth (Malacosoma neustria)...

then along came a spider....

and sat down beside her.

Black and red froghopper (Cercopis vulnerata).

As above.

The western honey bee (Apis mellifera).

European paper wasp (Polistes dominula)...

As above.

The Dun-bar moth (Cosmia trapezina) larvae...

It was on a sprig of rosemary that I brought in from the garden, which I only discovered when I put the sprig under the tap to wash it.  Lucky fellow, he got put outside to have a second life

As above.

Peony, the only genus in the family (Paeoniaceae).

Wet, wet, wet,  Rhododendron, Iris, Grape leaf and peony.

24/05/2021The potatoes are doing well, waiting for the continual rain to ease off so I can plant everything else! This was a dry spell at 8pm!  I sort of managed to cut the grass yesterday afternoon, but it was so wet underneath that it did not pick up at all - cut grass all over.

Returning to May 8  the local mayor had a small ceremony for Victory in Europe day.
I am glad we went as there was only about 20 of us, all masked of course.  This photo was when the young lady was reading all the names off of the memorial.   After each name is read everyone says "Décédé pour la France" (died for France).  They will never be forgotten.

Please Note if you follow me by email the old feeder is closing down. I have therefore updated with a new server, so please feel free to add your email address to the link above.

Take care everybody, keep well and stay safe.

31/07/2017 Not a good day all round but a few drive by photos en route to La Rochefoucauld!

Maximum temperature 26, minimum 14C.   13 km/h NW winds with 17 km/h gusts.  Light drizzle in the morning not enough rain in the gauge to measure.
Next village after leaving home we passed this field of maize.

Driving through La Rochefoucald.

Stopping at Media Concept.  Nigel's laptop is making odd complaints, so we decided to order a new computer before he ends up with a disaster. The one he is using is now quite old and he is still on Windows 7!

Saw this as we shot past, never noticed it before, must be a new shop so will look properly next time.  Pity about the chimney!!!

Shopping at Leclerc...

and spotted this St John's Wort in the shrubbery outside. Note the little spider as well, an extra bonus :-)

Driving back home - men at work...

Grape vines...

orchard of apples...

Poppies that would not keep still in the wind, I got Nigel to stop the car for this shot...

Our local chateau...

Wood for sale, I don't want to think about winter approaching!...

and almost home - making hay while the sun sort of shines!
