23/04/2016 Back home but hundreds of photos to download!!! Wet drive home and we are both tired, busy day tomorrow so will only be back to normal on Monday.

Maximum temperature 15C, minimum 7C.   33 k/h  NE winds.  3mm rain measured on our return.
Built 1000 years ago on a gigantic rock, the Château de Belcastel began with a 9th century chapel, and grew over the centuries as generations of knights, nobles and rogues built their legacies within the stronghold. Then the Château‘s story came to an abrupt halt in the late 16th century, when the fortress was abandoned and left to ruin.

Belcastel, XVth century bridge which we had to drive over, We have not got a big car and the bridge was only just wide enough!

Collegiate Notre Dame de Villefranche-de-Rouergue.
Construction of the church began in 1260.

The nave and the apse.

Some of the carved stone work around the Western portal.

When I have more time I will write some separate posts on the places we have visited in the last four days on my other blog My Life in the Charente.
