26/09/2017 A few rushed shots another busy day in the kitchen

Maximum temperature 21C,  minimum 13C. 5 km/h NE wind with 14 km/h gusts. 8mm of rain  measured this morning.  Some rain this afternoon not measured yet.
The only insect around on the wet flowers....

Bumble bee...

As above.

Sure this is the same lizard as yesterday, the only one who allows me close.
Common wall Lizard (Podarcis Muralis).

Rose.

Mushroom in the lawn.

Le Gendarme beetle (Pyrrhocoris apterus). I always think these look like African masks.
For those who asked about these beetles yesterday see the link HERE

This evening's sunset.

More figs in the dehydrator.
Also another batch of quinces will be ready for bottling tomorrow.
For those that are interested Part four of our trip to Botswana and Southern Africa is HERE

  1. I haven't seen figs in a very long time. One of my late brother's favorite things. Mom used to make fig preserves, so good. :)

The sunset is gorgeous, Diane. :)

    1. We have two trees and as all the first crop got wiped out with a late frost I did not expect any this year but suddenly there are masses, yum yum. I jam them, make chutney and preserve in syrup, but bottling is so slow and time consuming and I also have a backlog anyway so we just nibble at them dried or I put them in any dish that requires dried fruit with other fruit I have dried. It as a good sunset. Take care Diane

  2. The Le Gendarme beetle is a fascinating little bug, pretty color combo and markings. Loved the bee shots of course. The common wall lizard is a handsome fellow, and super shots of the roses, mushroom, the figs and that spectacular looking sky. Great post Diane :)

    1. Thanks Denise, they mention that the Gendarme beetle is a pest, but I never see any damage here from them and we have many! I nearly missed that sky as I was upstairs where we only have roof sky lights. I walked down just at the right moment ! Glad you are home safely Diane

    1. We are real fig fans and although we love them fresh you can only eat so many that way! Drying them is a perfect option. Take care Diane

    1. I am sure it recognises me as it just watches me now and even if I move in very close it only backs a way a little. All the others run and hide. Keep well Diane

  6. Wow, Diane. What amazing images of the bumble bee. And the figs look so yummy. I make figs in syrup during season (March) but love dried figs the best. So I should visit you... Jo

    1. I have bottled, jammed and made chutney over past years but we have a back log and drying is so easy by comparison. We also love just snacking on them, they do not last very long :-)) We have two trees both loaded with them! Keep well Diane
