06/06/18 Around the garden

Maximum temperature today 21C, minimum 15C.    Rainfall 34 mm measured since my last post; 15 km/h South Westerly winds with up to 38 km/h gusts.
Total rainfall since 1st January; 606 mm and more rain today!

Too dark to paint today so here is another catch-up post.  Photos taken over several days when there was a glimmer of sun between rain!

I managed to cut the lawn at the weekend but it was quite wet...

as above.

Love in the mist, and with what I believe to be a fly or bee of some kind covered in pollen

Rosebud with an Oxythyrea funesta chomping away on the petals! Note the small fly on the top of the petal on the right.

Bee Beetle (Trichius fasciatus)  on the cotoneaster...

as above.

Carnation growing in amongst the rosemary!

Day Lilies.

Cotoneaster with an unknown beetle.  I only saw the beetle when I looked at the photo which was taken of the flowers!

Fungus on the wood pile. Possibly Trametes versicolor, often called the "turkey tail.

Granny Smith apples.

Potato plants.

N.B. My bird blog is updated  HERE

Part 12 of the birds I saw last year in Africa.

  2. I think the bracket fungus is indeed Turkey Tail. Always happy to see lots of insects in your garden.

    1. They are almost cuddly little beetles, I quite like them:-)
Glad to hear from Ralph, the Dutch all seem to be tall. My husband is 1.93 meters and is quite dwarfed by some of the Dutch we meet out and about.

  11. Hi Diane. This is the first time I have seen a bee-beetle, they really are well named. I love the carnation growing among the rosemary. I will have to plant some among my rosermary bushes. Have a great weekend, Kim x

  12. How beautifully lush and green the garden is Diane with splashes of vibrant colour! How is the painting going, do you still have much to do? So many beetles, do you just let them munch away or do you spray? I tend to let them carry on, live and let live 😀 not too keen on chemicals in the garden. Have a super weekend, hope the weather clears up ✨

    1. Grace we are well behind on the painting. So much else todo, and the days I plan on painting it is dark and grey and impossible to see what one is doing, but we will get there eventually. The weather has a lot to answer for this year - dark, grey, growth of weeds and some plants just hating to be so wet!!!!!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend Diane.

On another note, I have no idea what happened to Graham at One Stoned Crow. I so enjoyed his posts and was looking forward to seeing his finished house.
