Maximum temperature today 24C, minimum 12C. Dry; 19 km/h North Easterly chilly winds with up to 44 km/h gusts.
Because we went to get fuel first, we were running a little late, so instead of the usual country roads, we decided to take the main road. Seems like the tourists have arrived, Caravans and campervans, plus trucks slowed us down, but we still arrived with a couple of minutes to spare!
Despite the busy road, the scenery was still interesting. The farmers are all very busy.
Nearly at our destination.
L'Oree des Vallees where we had booked for lunch. The surprise was it is owned by English people!
It used to be an old hotel see the photo above.
Great value, four courses, plus wine and expresso for €13.00
The menu, sorry not easy to read but......
We both picked the crevettes (shrimps) for starters...
I had the Salade de Chevre Chaud. Salad with hot goats cheese, delicious...
Nigel had the chicken with mushroom sauce, served with rice and a salad...
We both had the cheese course, 3 good size pieces each, and I forgot the photo of the chocolate mousse!
This house was just down the road from the restaurant !!!!!!.....
and I guess they did not use this door or the steps!!!!!! Each to their own!
Leaving we passed the Rochechouart chateau
and drove home through the country.
Driving through Les Salles Lavauguyon past the church. For those who have often asked me to take photos inside the churches, we have visited here before and this church is particularly interesting, see HERE
Beautiful place. Delicious looking dishes! I wonder how the pieces of cheese taste like! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy, I love all cheese so I wil eat anything :-) Take care Diane
DeleteLadies and Gentlemen, Mesdames eat Messieurs, welcome to another episode of Decadence with Diane, sometimes subtitled Noshing with Nigel. Come with them, ONCE AGAIN, on a trip to a French restaurant, where you willl be provided with a drool bib, certain to be required as you watch them wine and dine, burp and slurp, fill their bellies, swill their wine, nibble their cheese. There is no end to the pleasure they have and the vicarious torture they inflict on the rest of us. They are beyond reproach, without even a hint of guilt, not a twinge of conscience. I am quite sure they will be flaunting food again in the very near future. Now where was that half finished peanut butter sandwich I had?
ReplyDeleteLOL. David the only edible thing in this world I really dislike is peanut butter, so you would not even have to share the remaining half with me! No, I do not feel in the slightest bit guilty, and I have not even told you about the last two meals out :-) Keep well and enjoy the sandwich, Diane
DeleteWhat a lovely lunch. Everything looks so delicious and well presented. What a great value it was too. The country road looks like a very peaceful drive.
ReplyDeleteFantastic value, simple cooking but quite delicious. Yes, we will pick the country roads usually everytime, they are so quiet and peaceful. Enjoy your weekend Diane
DeleteThat road through the country is spectacular. I’d have a stroll through there!
ReplyDeleteStrolling through the countryside in France is all well and good during non hunting season, but beware during the season. I make sure I keep off of small roads and I wear yellow security, visibility tops!! Take care Diane
DeleteLove the look of this pretty town and all the interesting things you found there. All the knickknacks in front of the house? Fascinating! Definitely someone’s passion for displaying their collection. I am guessing they don’t have any local authorities to say get that stuff out of here. Looks like a tripping hazard and a deterrent for sales people or anyone for that matter. Your meal looks scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteI am sure nobody is in the slightest bit worried about the knickknacks outside but to us it just looked a mess:-)) The meals was really good, quite plain but yummy. Take care Diane
DeleteA day well spent, delicious meal and wonderful ride in the country. How fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anne so nice to see some sunshine even though we are having chilly winds! It was a good day out. Take care Diane
DeleteLike you I would rather take the back country roads! More to see and view and enjoy! Not only do your buildings differ from ours but the food does too. So different looking. Thanks for sharing though.
ReplyDeletePam on our trip the the States I just found that most of the time there was far too much food and I could not eat it. Here I can generally get through the menus with little trouble. As you say everything looks so different. Keep well and take care Diane
Delete24C! You had the perfect day for your lunch outing Diane, I enjoyed coming along with you the lunch looked delish. How fab to pass the occasional chateaux on your trips, doesn't happen here 😊 Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteNot often that we go out and not see a chateau, but not alwasys as large as this one!! 24C was fine, but the NE wind was cold!! Hope you had a good weekend, take care Diane.
DeleteYou have so many wonderful places to visit. Your lunch looks really good! I've never had goats cheese but assuming it's very good also.
ReplyDeleteI love the country roads you and Nigel travel, Diane! :)
xoxo
I like any cheese :-) Nigel used to not like blue or goat, he still does not like goat, but he now loves blue!! We have a beautiful countryside to drive around in. Keep well Diane xx
DeleteYou know how I like taking these day trips with you. I also checked your links. All part of a nice tour.
ReplyDeleteGlad you checked the link, that church is very special. Keep well Diane
DeleteDavid's rant is divine and true. I love the presentation of your European meals. And they are always drool worthy.
ReplyDeleteLOL, he does make me laugh. This place was plain cooking buy tasty and at the price it was brilliant, Have a good week, Diane
