11/07/2018 Trying to catch up......

Maximum temperature today 26C, minimum 15C.   Dry; 12 km/h North Easterly winds with up to 31 km/h gusts.  Dry.

Photos from our week away other than the Little Owl (Athene noctua).  I was sitting at the computer last night when I heard a suspicious noise, I even had time to change the lens on my camera before I went outside. The light was not great as the sun was setting behind the owl, but it made my week for me. 😃😉😊
Little Owl (Athene noctua)...

as above.

I have tried my best with the identification of the following, if I am wrong please let me know.
Azure damselfly (Coenagrion puella).

Water striders and azur damselfly.

Banded demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens) damselfly.

Flower longhorn beetle (Stictoleptura cordigera).  Is that a dragonfly up in the corner?

Dragonfly - Large Pincertail - (Onychogomphus uncatus)....

As above.

Marbled White Butterfly (Melanargia galathea).

I think this is a Mayfly, but that is far as I can get with the identification here!

An orb web spider maybe!

  3. Wow, great photo's, Diane. I don't have a clue as to what you're trying to find. And, in actuality you know SO much more than I do about nature.

  8. Hi Diane. The Little Owl would have made my week - month - year, even! I haven't had a close encounter with a Little Owl for a long while, and I'm sure you can imagine how disappointing for me that is!

I love your insect images too - especially those of the dragons. I think your dragonfly might be a Large Pincertail (Onychogomphus uncatus) by the markings on the thorax, and the strong blue eye colour - I wish we had that species here!

With my very best wishes - Take good care - - - Richard

    1. Thanks Richard for the identification. I do not have this dragonfly in my book and I struggled to find anything on the internet. I thought it odd that it was called small, as it was quite big!! My brain did go as far as the thinking there might be a Large Pincertail which I had not found on any sites where I looked!!!

Oh that Little Owl just made me so excited, I was bubbling afterwards. I have waited 12 years to get that shot and despite the light I was pretty happy with it.

Thanks so much, have a good week and take care Diane

    1. Thanks Pam and good to hear from you even though you are not doing your own blog anymore. I hear these around all the time but they have never posed for me before, they are generally too far away or hidden in a tree! Keep well Diane

  11. Exquisite macros Diane. I would have been thrilled to capture the owl also, they really are the most amazing looking birds, I love the lighting in both the shots. How is the painting coming on.. and the cough, still there?

    1. I was so delighted about that shot of the owl, I had almost given up the idea that I would ever get a photo :-)
I still have the hall to finish and Nigel the window frames with varnish. It is slow! The cough I thought had gone, but no, it is still returning some nights when I am in bed. It is better though. Eight months now from when it started in December!! How are you doing? Take care Diane
