12/08/2019 A few more photos from the garden before our visitors arrive.

Maximum temperature today 21C, minimum 12C.  10 mm of very welcome rain measured this morning.  19km/h North-westerly winds with gusts up to 44 km/h.

Gatekeeper butterfly (Pyronia tithonus).

Common Wall Lizard (Podarcis Muralis).

Speckled wood (Pararge aegeria).

I think this is one of the Potter wasps (or mason wasps), (Eumeninae).

A hopper unidentified in the bathroom!!! Probably a cricket but the long antennae are almost invisible. Maybe a mole cricket?

Jersey Tiger Moth (Euplagia quadripunctaria). Taken from outside of the window....

and from the inside.

A bumble bee on the lavender.

Our first sunflower of the year in the garden...

With a bee and another insect, possibly a different kind of bee (?) that kept trying to bomb the first one.

Flowers from the sweetcorn plants...

and the first view of tassels on the cobs forming.  Yum yum.

A rose after the rain.

Multiple sunflowers.

And my favourite shot of the week the moon with the leaves of the cherry tree in the foreground.  Think this is my best shot ever of the moon.

  1. Hi Diane - love them all ... I want to mention the little 'common wall lizard' - wonderful. All beautiful photos - but as you say the moon shines down ... and so glad they're all labelled (or near enough) - cheers Hilary

    1. Temperature perfect for you maybe but we are both wearing jerseys again!!! The rain looks like it will be around more this week, great for the garden but I just hope it clears for our visitors as sight seeing in the rain is no fun! Cheers Diane

    1. Sally the sunflowers that have grown are the odd few I scattered in odd beds, the main bulk I planted, not one came up!!! Thanks looking forward to seeing M & M. Take care Diane xx

  4. Your flowers and insects are enchanting. It's a wonder that wasp doesn't fall apart with no waist.

    1. I agree they are particularly thin but guess there must be some strong body attachment! Keep well Diane

  5. BEAUTIFUL pics!! I love all the little critters you find to photograph. Mole Cricket?? Never heard of that, we have what we call Cave Crickets but they have a rounder body, sort like they were mated with spiders. I so dislike them. Crickets don't bother me but since spiders do and these remind me of spiders I took a flat out, right on the spot ....DISLIKE.

  9. I wouldn't be getting too close to the wasp. I hear they have a nasty sting.
