11/04/2021 Now into April and still only garden photos.....

Maximum temperature here today 13⁰C, minimum 5⁰C.  33mm of rain measured this morning.   14km/h cool North-Westerly winds with gusts up to 35 km/h.  We have 90% rain forecast again for tomorrow.   Next week the temperature drops and more frost is forecast!!!

I just wonder if we will get any fruit this year with the continual change in weather from hot to freezing,  The vineyards have been lighting candle type lights between the grapes, but they say a lot of damage has already been done.  It will be a disaster if there is no wine later this year.

We are back in lockdown yet again for at least another 4 weeks... The curfew continues as it has been for several months now.

1 April cherry blossom - all gone now!

White bluebells.

Apple Blossom.

Chaenomeles Japonica - Japanese Quince.

Western Honey Bee (Apis mellifera).

As above.

As above.

Quince blossom- note the little bee - and white and blue bluebells.

Choisya ternata or Mexican Orange.

Common Wall Lizard (Podarcis muralis).

I think this is a Katydid (Tettigoniidae).

As above.

Standing in our vegetable garden, the neighbours have their lawnmowers out!!

Common Wall Lizard (Podarcis muralis).

Apple blossom.

A slightly battered speckled wood (Pararge aegeria)...

I am open to correction here possibly a mining bee family Andrenidae or Heriades truncorum – the Large-headed resin bee??

Take care everybody, keep well and stay safe.

  1. Sorry to hear of your threatened cold weather, Diane, especially if it is going to affect wine production! At least you have recently experienced some warm weather. From having the second hottest March day on record a couple of weeks ago, we have had hard frosts, and it has snowed on and off during today.

I know it must be frustrating being in tight lock down as you have been there for so long, but at least you have your wonderful garden to keep you busy and interested, and us entertained by your wonderful photography. Thank you!

My very best wishes to you and Nigel - - - Richard

    1. Sorry late reply, time is never on my side!! We have had a really cold spell which had caused lots of damage across France, grapes and fruit! Tomorrow 18th, it warms up once again thank goodness but it is too late for many trees and plants.

We will both be glad when lockdown is lifted again but we are still nervous of going anywhere with too many people around.

Keep safe and good wishes to you both, Diane

Lockdowns in much of Canada again too. Not here yet though.

    Take care.

  4. Your photos, as always, are delightful, Diane. You do have an eye for interesting insects and I always look forward to seeing what you have to show us. We too are back in lockdown again - third time. It never seems to end, and I have concluded that our politicians, especially the buffoon at the head of the provincial government, have no idea what they are doing. And last night there was a protest by Covidiots against the curfew and lockdown, where just for fun store windows were smashed, a few fires set, sweet diversions such as that. Aren't we just a civilized, advanced species?

    1. I am now getting really angry with all the idiots that party behind closed doors or protest in large groups. All very well for them, but they are causing everyone else problems as well. All the Parisians had warning of lockdown so took off to their country homes - COVID travelled with many of them !!!!!
Hope you two are well and keeping safe. Diane

  5. Beautiful flowers and interesting critters. The infected cases seem to be going up and down and up again. Don't know how long it will continue to haunt us.

    1. Even the garden this past week has not been very welcoming, we have had frost every morning and icy cold winds, we are just now starting to warm up again. My cough just comes and goes all the time - frustrating!!
Enjoy your freedom in Perth and hope it remains that way. Diane

  7. Very sorry to hear about your lockdown Diane but want to thank you for these great photos while you are in this situation. I do hope the time passes quickly and that the virus can be contained so that you can return to normal.

    1. I am beginning to wonder if we will ever return to normal what ever that may be. So depressing, but thank goodness for the garden despite a run of frosts again!
Hope all is well with you. Diane

  8. Hi Diane - I've seen the icicles hanging from the vines ... and we've had frost here - still are getting it ... I too hope the vineyards aren't wiped out and you get some decent grapes this year ... beautiful photos and I love japonica - my brother had a magnificent one I saw at Easter. I just hope it's warming up a little - but we do have a bit of sun!

Another lock-down ... so frustrating for you ... all the best - Hilary

    1. Hi Hilary, sorry reply is more than a bit late! Grapes and fruit tress have just had a hard week with frosts every morning, the result is not going to be good.

Fed up with all the COVID regulations but even if they are lifted we will be very nervous of too many people around!!

Hope that all is well with you, take care and stay safe. Diane

  11. At least you have your lovely garden. We live in an apartment. Lockdowns are particularly hard with no outdoor space.

    1. I think I would have gone nuts without a garden. We seem to have been in almost permanent lockdown now for 14 months. I feel sorry for people in an apartment with children! Keep safe, cheers Diane
