15/02/2018 Nothing much new here except it is a bit warmer!!

Maximum temperature today 14C, minimum 6C.  16 mm of rain measured last night. South Westerly winds; 17 km/h with up to 37 km/h gusts.
A trip for both of us to the dentist, no problems thankfully.

Interesting house next door to the dentist.

The railway bridge over the road.  Traffic from the other side has right of way but not always adhered to!

Driving off the end of the world 😉

Driving into Taponnat-Fleurignac...

The Mairie  (The mayor's office)...

at the back of the town is this huge property, not a clue who lives there but...

The drive entrance has a huge gateway of which this was all I managed to get as we drove by!

Fleurignac, one of the small villages in the commune of Taponnat-Fleurignac

The Lavoir of  Fleurignac.  Thanks goodness for washing machines, I cannot imagine washing clothes here as they did in the old days in winter, and with floods as it has been this year.

European robin (Erithacus rubecula),

Great tit (Parus major) and Blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus).

If you should be interested after an 18 month break from my blog 'My Life Before the Charente'  I have at last added a new post 😊

  1. So many interesting places around you! Glad to know the dentist visit went well. I saw my oldest great granddaughter this morning after having braces today; she looks very cute and the braces are colorful. I may have to get a pic to show you. :)

Yes, thank goodness for washing machines, lady. I remember my grandmother washing clothes in a huge tin (which we also took bath's in when we were kids). She washed, wrung and then poured scalding water to rinse, wrung again then hung on the line. When we complain, we need to also remember like the photo you showed to know how grateful we should be.

I hope you are having a good day, thanks so much for your friendship.
    xoxo

    1. Colourful braces that does sound interesting a new one on me, yes lets see a photo. My mum used to use a tin bath as well and a mangle!!! Even that though is better than the communal wash house on a cold winter's day!!

Sally it would be great if we could meet but it not like to happen, our one and only visit in your direction was a couple of years back. Take care and thinking of you and your daughter. Diane xx

  2. What surprises me the most is that the weather in France is so similar to Georgia, USA. The North Atlantic current certainly warms France like England and Ireland. The latitude where you live is 13 degrees North of where I live.

I looked up the weather on the West coast of North American and the weather matches the latitude. Montreal, Canada is a similar latitude. I would say it gets real cold there; but, Canucks hate how we exaggerate how cold it is in Canada.

    Fort Valley, GA, USA 32.5538° N, 83.8874° W
    Charente, France 45.7520° N, 0.1535° E

    1. Wow interesting details I would never have given it a thought if you had not come up with the details. I have to say Canadian temperatures are far too low for my liking. David Gascoigne goes out birding in -13,5 C I would not survive even a few yards in to that weather!! Thanks for this info Diane

Glad you enjoy the trips into the countryside here, we always do despite the fact we travel the same roads so often.

      have a good weekend Diane

  6. Hi Diane. The unpainted buildings are like the ocean, they reflect the sky and have a very grey and 'wet' look to them. I can't imagine living in such weather for long. Hope there is some improvement with your cough. Kim

  7. That's an attractive dentist's office. Most of them over here are rooms inside hospitals.

    1. The UK is much the same I think. Our Dr, physio and dentist all work from a house which has pleasant surroundings. Cheers Diane

    2. When I think about it, I guess the smaller country towns at home in Australia do too work out of free-standing houses, not high-rises or hospitals like in the city. They still certainly don't have as much charm as this one.

    3. A lot were in hospitals in Africa but some still kept to the private buildings and working from homes. Our Dentist in Johannesburg had a magnificent house and the extension where he worked from was also lovely. He was an excellent dentist but charged the earth!!! He drove a Rolls Royce!!!!!!

  8. I'm pleased to hear that your weather is warming up a bit, Diane. I hope your cough is improving too! Was fascinated to read your 'before' blog, and also to learn of how Nigel appeared on the scene!

Take good care, and have a great weekend - - - Richard

    1. Thanks Richard and hope you do as well.

That first phone call from Nigel floored me, such a strong somerset accent, glad he speaks almost normal now and I can understand him LOL.

      Best wishes Diane

  9. Coming away from the dentist without having any work done is such a bonus Diane ☺ What moody skies you had for your dtive. I see you have a stone in the middle of your deep birdbath, I do too, can't tell you how much I enjoy your bird shots. My cough still persists.. I had a friend here for lunch today, she had a cough also, we took it in turns 😀

  11. Glad to hear that it is warmer at your place. Lovely scene from your trip to the dentist. Over here the dental clinic is usually located in one of the shop lots or at the clinics.

  13. Nice series of photos which show the village where you live. The gray weather looks about the same here. Soon it will be a distant memory.

    1. Penny we actually live in a hamlet about 5 kms away. This is the closest town to us, but only a population of just under 3000 so not huge. Our closest village, and the one where out local mayors office is (plus a very old church) has no shops at all. Take care, Diane

  14. With all the interesting architecture your trip to the dentist is like visiting a museum for me.
