Maximum temperature today 9C, minimum -2C. Dry; 8 km/h North Easterly winds with up to 25 km/h gusts. Heavy frost and less wind today.
We both managed to get out into the garden to do a bit of weeding and cutting back today, the wind had settled somewhat and it was reasonably pleasant.
First buttercups.
I think this is a bee but not sure which one.
Also probably a bee.
A fly, they are always the first to return!
Dandelion.
Violas. Hardy little flowers.
Topinambour dug from the garden today, there are masses of them!
(Jerusalem artichoke).
I don't think I have ever eaten Jerusalem artichokes. Are they good?
ReplyDeleteDavid we love them, they make amazing soup, great lightly fried with onions or raw in a salad. A number of people complain that they cause wind ! Thankfully they do not effect either of us :-) Have a good day, Diane
DeleteIt is so good to see the spring wildflowers, Diane!
ReplyDeleteIt is great to see some of the wild flowers back. They should not be in the lawn but I really do not mind. Take care, Diane
DeleteThese are beautiful flower shots.
ReplyDeleteThanks the violas in particular are so hardy. They just survive all the frosts. Cheers Diane
DeleteWonderful macros Diane, your spring garden must look a picture!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to say it was obviously a side effect from the blood pressure pills that caused my cough and now after a week of the new pills the cough is almost gone.. hallelujah! 😊 Hope you have a lovely weekend.
Pleased to hear your cough is going, wish mine was! The garden looks quite dull really, just a few splashes of colour that one has to look for, not obvious! I wanted to cut the grass today after two days dry, but despite charging the battery on the mower it would not start! Rain has started again so the grass just gets longer!!! Enjoy the weekend Diane
DeleteBeautiful flowers and the bees love them too! Jerusalem artichokes is new to me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy, you have many food s there that we also do not know about :-) Have a good Sunday Diane
DeleteBeautiful, Diane! So glad y'all got out to work in the wonderful flowers.
ReplyDeleteI hope you weren't anywhere near the shootings I just read about in the paper. :)
xoxo
Hi Sally, We are about 460 kms (286 miles) from Carcassonne, so no it was nowhere near us but so sad. It was a good day in the garden but the rain is no back again!! Have a good Sunday Diane
DeleteNice shots. What a huge load of Jerusalem artichokes!
ReplyDeleteHa ha Pam that does not even come close to what is still in the garden, there are sack fulls!! Take care Diane
DeleteI wish our flowers would come out. Soon I hope.
ReplyDeleteWe have not many but some colour is better than none! Have a good day Diane.
DeleteOh I really love those shots. Yellow really pops and with the bugs on there they look great. Love the second one for sure.
ReplyDeleteYellow is always such a cheerful colour I think. Good to see some bugs back :-) Have a good Sunday, Diane
DeleteI thought I posted a comment here but it didn't show. Your spring flowers are very pretty and the bees love them!
ReplyDeleteSorry Nancy I was busy yesterday and did not download all the comments, but yes you had left a comment, see above. Take care Diane
DeleteHi Diane. There was lots of beautiful flowers and insects for you to photograph. Everything looks so fresh after rain. It is the same in my garden today. My cat is having great fun chasing dragon flies. Enjoy the weekend. Kim xx
ReplyDeleteI never see a dragon fly here, we are not that close to a river or dam, sad they would be good for photos. Hope that you also have a good weekend, Diane x
DeleteIf it's like here, there's always a false spring. But the bugs know best.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree the bugs and the birds seem to know a lot more than we do :-) Happy days, Diane
