Maximum temperature today 13C, minimum 7C. Rain most of the day again, 28 mm since the last post; 10km/h South Westerly winds with up to 34 km/h gusts.
Total rain since 1 January now 470 mm.
We knew we had to buy more paint. The rough plaster walls are using more than planned! So as the light was too bad to paint again, we took a drive to get some more while we could. Public holiday here tomorrow so everything will be closed.
The new palette factory outside Chasseneuil is very busy. Lots of wood piles you can see in the back, and palettes in the foreground. Not the prettiest of buildings, but at least it is dark so not so obvious.
The main street in Chasseneuil....
and one of the back streets. The pink building at the end is one of the 4 boulangeries in town
There is white blossom everywhere, possibly hawthorn or blackthorn.
I wonder if one of the farmers had a vegetable store here at one time? It has been empty ever since we moved here 12 years ago.
The photo I took today was blurred, so the blue sky belongs to a day with better weather!
The 'Lanterne des Morts' at Cellefrouin cemetery was built in the 12th century. An oil lamp at the base of the spire was lit at night to encourage travellers to come and pray for the dead. It's in good shape after so many years.
Crossing 3 bridges where a series of streams run, sometimes they almost become one wide river!
Brico 16 where we buy our paint. The owners have a small shop under their house, it is the only place nearby where we can buy good English paint and mixed to the required colour. A very popular place as French paint just does not last!!
Just another tractor...
and another one.
We are both cyclists and this makes me angry. Narrow roads and riding side by side, it is not necessary, we can ride one behind the other and so can others!!
Finally, I could not resist another photo of the chateau at La Rochefoucauld as we head home from the last stop at the supermarket. Nigel said, "another photo, you take this every time" 😉.
N.B. My new bird blog is HERE
Part 6 of the birds I saw last year in Africa.
Praying for the dead? Seems a bit too late - they are already dead!
ReplyDeleteI am inclined to agree with you, but there are a few cemeteries around here with a 'Lanterne des Morts'. Guess in the old days they thought it might help! :-) Take care and have a good week Diane
DeleteI'M BACK! And I know I would just love riding around your country with my camera. So pretty. Going to the beach where we went you travel two lane roads for 2 hours or more...back roads of Alabama. Some counties look like they took a hit yrs ago and have not recovered yet. The photographer in me wants to take my Nikons and travel that area, with no kids and not following anyone, and just stop and snap along the way. Those 2 plus hours would end up being a lot longer but I saw so much I wanted to slam on the brakes to shoot.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back. I am always shouting at Nigel, stop, stop and of course even if there are no other cars around he cannot stop immediately LOL. He gets quite frustrated, but he is also very patient when he sees something and will stop anyway if we have the time. France is a beautiful country to take photos of, even on the main road I generally manage to find some good shots. Have a good week Diane
DeleteI can see why you always take a picture of the Chateau at La Rochefoucauld. It is quite beautiful. I can't imagine having four bakeries in town. The temptation, distance will keep me away. I don't need to be eating very much bread.
ReplyDeleteI've started painting. Your post the other day reminded me of a project that I have been delaying.
Ann I just love that chateau, it really is beautiful outside and inside. It is hard not to take photos each time we go by. We do not eat a lot of bread as the scales know all about it very quickly if we do!!!
DeleteWhen we have finished painting the house, I would like to get back to painting pictures, I have not been near a canvas for several years and I do miss it. Trouble is time!!!! Hope you have a good week Diane
Love the white blossom! Bikes on the road, o yes... it is like here in the Netherlands. It's not easy...
ReplyDeleteMore paint, hopefully the weather will cooperate and you can finish.
ReplyDeleteI love the last photo so much (they're all good, but this is spectacular)
xoxo
Praying for the dead is a thing in the catholic church. That structure sure has stood the test of time.
ReplyDeletebicycle riders can be annoying on the much wider roads we have here. Common sense should rule. I am so anxious to see it when you are finished with upgrades.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane. Despite the rain and lack of light, the photos are still very clear and beautiful. Have a great week. x
ReplyDeleteIt happens here too Diane, very annoying when cyclists ride side by side. I'm always tempted to beep my horn and give them a wee fright.. I never do 😀 I would absolutely be taking that last shot more than once or twice ✨
ReplyDeleteThe 1st and the last pictures are my favourites! Have a fabulous week!
ReplyDeleteWhen the weather is shitty you might as well paint. Wow, four bakeries in town. I'd be happy with one. Some places call for a photo every time. I do that.
