Unfortunately, their street address on all the mapping websites was 'up the creek' and we could not track down any coordinates. However, we were duly very impressed when we managed to locate it after a short detour through a nearby village with a similar name. I now have it in the car satnav with the correct details!!
The restaurant is called the Bouton D'or (buttercup) (see the above arrow) and it is in the village of Saint-Romain-en-Charroux. This village is called Saint Romain, and there is another place down the road called Charroux, photos from which I will publish tomorrow. For anyone who would like to take a trip to this Vienne village, the coordinates are N 46⁰ 13' 17. 63" E 0⁰ 21' 55. 58"
Bouton D'or from the outside...
and inside, with the owner waving his arms around, telling a table full of women some funny story! We were one of the first arrivals, despite being delayed on our detour. The place filled up soon afterwards.
The piano, we gather, is often in use by someone or another. I am not sorry it was quiet today, as we were sitting right next to it!
The special Sunday menu; weekday meals are simpler, and considerably cheaper.
Amuse-bouche.
Seafood cassolette.
Duck (apparently 3 x cooked in different ways, so the owner informed us) with mashed potato, mushrooms and a salad. The duck, from Sarlat in the Dordogne, was delicious and very tender.
Dessert.
The church of St Romain right next door.
Nigel spotted this very old and rusty sign for Ricard on a house wall....
and this one, which he managed to work out was for a fertiliser.

DeleteHi Diane. It looks a very pretty village. I would love the cheese! I have never tasted duck but it looks delicious. How is the cough?
ReplyDeleteHi Kim that was a tremendous cheese board :-))))) We have duck often here and love it. The cough..... I think there is a slight improvment!! I finished the tablets, and after the the first week on the nebuliser I was drinking bottles of water by the dozen - so thirsty. Then I had a raging sore throat followed by what looked almost like a fungus on the back of my throat. I stopped the nebuliser 4 days too early and my throat cleared up slowly. I am still coughing when I go to bed but less during the day!! Keep well and thanks for asking. Diane
DeleteGlad you cough is getting better. I have had a bad throat and sinus infection for nearly six weeks. It has only begun improving in the past of couple of days.
ReplyDeleteHad a bad coughing night last night so not sure if it really is any better!!! Hope you get better soon it is horrible when these things drag on! Take care Diane
DeleteLooks divine. Every time you share duck I want to go out and buy one. Not easy to find here.
ReplyDeleteDuck is one of the most popular meals in France, every supermarket often has more duck on sale than chicken despite the fact it is more expensive. Take care and hope all turns out well for you. Hugs D & N
DeleteWhat a fabulous blue piano and oh goodness me - how on earth did I miss that cheese platter earlier! Thank you for leading me in the right direction. I could be here all day nibbling and tasting, tasting and nibbling.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would appreciate that cheese board, it was so hard to choose! Take care, cheers Diane
