Maximum temperature today 39C, minimum 24C. Dry. 18km/h South-westerly winds with gusts up to 42 km/h. Rain forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday. I hope it happens, but please not storms or hail which so often happens after very hot weather!! The garden is almost flat other than the lavender which seems to survive most.
Gatekeeper, this one I think is (Pyronia tithonus). The last post I am sure was the Southern Gatekeeper. Confusing for me I am no expert.
Hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum).
Wasp? bottoms up taking a drink.
Social wasp, love the shadow. Where its feet touch the water it looks like it is wearing shoes.
Too hot to put its feet down! Common Wall Lizard (Podarcis Muralis).
Nymph of the Shield bug (Nezara viridula)
Bombylius species maybe major.
As above.
As above
A little hopper on the wilting stargazer lily.
A hornet?
Is it hotter up there closer to the sun?

DeleteAs always great pictures. The wasp mooning us is a treasure.
ReplyDeleteThank you Emma, thankfully a bit cooler today, on the other hand I do not want cold !! Keep well Diane
DeleteYou did well to get to get any pictures at all in those obscene temperatures. It is a wonder your camera didn't melt! Today was quite lovely here. The high was 26 degrees and we were down at the shore where the breeze was delightful.
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have a shore in easy reach, I really miss not having any water nearby that is easy to get to. Always interesting birds around in those sort of areas that I never get to see. Cheers Diane
DeleteThose are outstanding!!! You show the most fascinating insects Diane. Thanks for the shares and have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise, always something interesting around if I look hard enough. You have a good weekend also. Diane
DeleteThis kind of heat must be hard on wildlife, and I am sure that your garden with the provision of water, is a real haven for them. As for the rain to come, it is almost predictable that after such a prolonged spell of extreme heat, the rain will come in the form of violent, intense storms. Whatever happened to the kind of gentle rain that used to fall and soak into the earth, rather than bouncing off?
ReplyDeleteWe seem to have some happy birds around this morning after a very welcome 7mm of rain last night. I had to get up at 03h30 to unplug the WiFi, it was very noisy and I did not need a lightning strike! More rain expected but we shall see what happens. I had watered earlier so at least the rain soaked i instead of running off the hard earth. Have a good weekend Diane
Deletewhat amazing pictures of butterflies and bees, love yours pictures Diane!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gloria, hope all is well with you, have a good weekend Diane
DeleteLove the wasp and the shadow
ReplyDeleteHi Marie, yes interesting shadows it took me a few seconds to work out why! Have a great weekend Diane.
DeleteYour close up photos are so good. Its actually cooler the higher you go. Sorry to hear about the heat wave in France. Hope its over soon.

DeleteDefinitely a day of bug butts. Hope the rain cools things off a bit. We just had a few days of rain marking the beginning of monsoon.
ReplyDeleteThe rain was good but we need quite a lot more. It was cool over the weekend but warming up again now! Hope you have a good week, Diane
DeleteWow. You really are experiencing high temperatures over there. Stay cool my friend.
ReplyDeleteLuckily we have a stone house which stays naturally cool but outside it is very fiery!! Cheers Diane
