28/01/2021 Just another walk a couple of days back (13 .1 kms).....

Maximum temperature here today 13⁰C, minimum 10⁰C.  11 mm rain measured this morning and it has not stopped raining since then!  23km/h South-Westerly winds with gusts up to 67 km/h.   90% chance of rain forecast for the next 7 days!!!! Not sure when I will be walking again!!

The small stream that generally 'trickles' through our local village. Glad we do not live closeby!

Narrow streets.

Looking across the fields.

Wet tracks.

A drier patch of road with Rapeseed (Brassica napus) planted on the left.

Cattle paddling in the mud, not good for their feet.

Cattle being fed in a barn.

One lone Buttercup (Ranunculus bulbosus).

Old man's beard · (Clematis vitalba).

I think this is Oakmoss (Evernia prunastri).

Possibly, Common tamarisk moss (Thuidium tamariscinum).

Teasels (Dipsacus).

I suspect this logging is being done by a paper mill.

At the 8km point, I met up with this over the road, the track I need to get to is on the other side...

I sneaked sort of around the banks on the righthand side, this was looking down the stream.  The last 5kms I walked in wet, muddy squelchy shoes.  Isn't mud supposed to be good for the skin 😊

Take care everybody, keep well and stay safe.

My local list of wildflowers. (90 Species 23/08/2020).

  2. You made me laugh about mud being good for your skin....my brother did a play in elem. school and he got up and said this poem, "Mud is very nice to feel, all squishy, squashy between the toes. I'd rather wade in wiggly mud then smell as yellow rose"!!!! Wow, those places sure are close to the little over flowing stream. I would freak. My creek was close enough to the house but when I say close enough, it was not this close. And those streets are pretty narrow for sure.

    1. Our house is on high ground Pam but even so the garden is waterlogged, another 22 mmm again last night. Your brother has it just right, squishy squashy between the toes...... It was a good walk though. Hope you are well, Diane

  3. It looks like there's a lot of natural wonders about, if only we pause to take a look - with our camera off course. Nice post.

  4. Love the narrow street, the track, the plants. A countryside without snow in January just doesn’t seem right. Though I love it.

    1. I am delighted that we do not have snow but I also wish the rain would ease of a bit as well. The garden is saturated despite living on high ground! Keep safe and take care Diane

  5. Your local countryside looks wonderful, Diane - even when the weather is rough! Not sure about walking through that torrent, however.

The Oakmoss (if that is what it is) if extremely attractive.

Yesterday they were predicting that Lindsay and I would be getting our first vaccine shot next week - now it looks as if could be as late as the end of February.

Take great care and stay safe - - - Richard

    1. Richard I do know that piece of river and road quite well in drier times so I was not too worried about going around the one end. It did not stop me from getting wet and muddy shoes though!

I don't think I have ever seen that Oakmoss(?) before, it took a lot of tracking down and I cannot see anything else quite the same. I must look for it again. As the weather is at present I will not be walking for another week at least!!

I have been told to expect a phone call in early Feb, re vaccine, but as things are going I will only believe it when it happens!

You both take care as well, we just have to keep ourselves in lockdown for a while longer yet, and even then is the vaccine going to be perfect? Diane

  6. Hi Diane, I love all your photos. You managed to capture them during a break in the rain. It's been rather wet here also though at the moment it's just gray. The last photo of the swollen river reminded me that the River Seine in Paris is flooding too. The ducks are swimming on what should be the sidewalk. I hope the rivers don't continue rising there. I laughed at your last comment about the mud. I know what 'fun' it is walking in wet mud. I hope you are now dry and mud free. Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Hi Penny, I am dry but the garden is now saturated, the rain just does not stop and another 22mm again last night. Thanks goodness we live on high ground! Hope all is well take care, Diane

  7. I love water. I live on the bluff side of a river. We have torrents of rainfall flowing into the river but the flooding happens on the other side where there is a substantial amount of marshland. I have walked through water a bit with my dogs. A bit of wet mud is good for the soul as long as it isn't too cold out. Cheers.

    1. The mud was fine though a little squelchy, thankfully it did not feel cold. We live on high ground, but even so with all the rain we have had the garden is saturated. Take care and keep safe, cheers Diane

  8. Hi Diane - lovely photos and notes on a wet January in France ... yes it's wet here too ... let us know when your skin improves - perhaps we'll all go mud-walking! Your village area is just wonderful to see ... taking me away from little old England! Stay safe - Hilary

    1. Haha Hilary, I will need to wallow a lot more in the mud me thinks before I have any signs of improvement!!

You also stay safe it is going to be a while longer before all this is over. Cheers Diane

  9. It looks very soggy there already, Diane, so the last thing you need is more rain. The countryside looks beautiful, however. You are an intrepid walker! If I remember you told me that Nigel is unable to do this any more so you do it alone. And even put up with muddy, soggy, squelchy shoes! You are my kind of hero(ine).

    1. Ha ha no hero, I had two options - walk back and end up having to walk 16 kms, or walk forward and do the planned 13 kms. The latter sounded like the better plan! So far this month we have had 101 mm and no sign of it abating for a while yet. I will be happy when the bugs return, it makes photography so much more interesting and they vary so much more than the birds do.
Keep safe and stay well, Diane

  11. It has been a long time since I walked in the rain. I have never like walking on muddy patch or path but I do enjoy walking just after the rain because the air will be crisp and fresh.

    1. Nancy I am not sure that I have ever walked through so much water and mud with shoes on before but it was not as bad as I was expecting :-))) Too many stones though so going barefoot was not an option. Keep safe, Diane

  17. I imagined the weather and cold air there.
Even though it is cold and the road looks wet but the scenery is very beautiful.
The river with clear water, the plants and flowers looked very refreshing.
Cold weather conditions are still good for exercise.
    Great shoot.
    Have a good week
    Stay healthy, stay safe there

  18. So nice to see running water. yes you are right, mud is good for the body. Especially mud from deep under the ocean and/or from high up in the mountains. They improve the blood circulation in the body.
