12/03/2025 Some photos from the first part of our holiday, so much more to come...

We have been in South Africa now for just over a month.   We still have four weeks before we return home to France.  Here are just a few of my photos from the early part of our holiday.

Impala, (Aepyceros melampus). A male with horns.

Chacma Baboon (Papio ursinus).

Cape Glossy Starling (Lamprotornis nitens).

Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) the tallest land animal in the world. Impala in the background.

Impala (Aepyceros melampus). Females no horns.

Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) female, only the male has horns...

As above.

Warthog (Phacochoerus aethiopicus). Impala in the background.

Marabou Stork (Leptoptilos crumenifer).

Garden Locust (Acanthacris ruficornis).

Southern African tree squirrel (Paraxerus cepapi).

I think this is a Common African praying mantis (Sphodromantis lineola) .

Scrub Hare (Lepus saxatilis).

African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana) shaking a large tree to knock down the marula fruit which they love eating.

Blacksmith Lapwing (Vanellus armatus).

Southern white rhino (Ceratotherium simum simum).

Brown-hooded Kingfisher (Halcyon albiventris).

Southern Red-billed Hornbill (Tockus rufirostris).

African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana).

Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis).

Lots more to follow when I have the time!!

    1. You are right David, it is like returning home for us and we have so many friends here. The first three weeks was spent game viewing and we are now visiting friends. We were lucky to see so much as the continual rain and floods have left the grass very high. We did though see my wish list, the big 5 and wild dogs :-) J'espère que vous allez bien, bisous Diane

    1. Hi Penny, it just feels like being back home, I love this place despite its problems. The wild life remains happy so long as the poachers are caught!! We spoke to someone last night who has tracker dogs, he has piles and piles of snares that the dogs have found. Keep well Diane

  5. Hi Diane - so good to see these ... many reminders - my favourites, always will be, the warthogs! Excellent you're having two months over there ... I hope both of you are well recovered as can be, and will recover more while you're in your second home. Wonderful - looking forward to more anon - cheers Hilary

    1. Thanks Hilary we are having a great time. I have been fine, nothing to recover from, but Nigel is struggling with balance and his back, thankfully he is coping with care taken. Despite the fact we live in France, and enjoy it there, Africa will always be home for me. The body lives in France but the heart remains here, ♥. Thanks for the visit, cheers Diane.
