Lots if insects out walking - Part 2

Maximum temperature here today 18⁰C, minimum 11⁰C. Rain measured this morning 5 mm. 17km/h South-Westerly winds with gusts up to 46 km/h.

It appears that there will still be a part 3 for May insects!! Perhaps it is good that we are having a few rainy days and I am not taking many photos in June as yet!!

Glanville fritillary butterfly (Melitaea cinxia).

Damselfly (Calopteryx splendens) Female.

Damselflies - (Coenagrion puella).

Bumblebee on the lavender.

There was quite an orgy going on with hundreds of these Graphosoma italicum mating making very sure they did not become extinct!!

Beetle longhorn (Rutpela_maculata). It was very windy and I was lucky to get any photo at all with the wind blowing the flower all over the place.

Coma butterfly (Polygonia c-album).

Holly Blue butterfly (Celastrina argiolus).

Meadow brown butterfly (Maniola jurtina) male...

My thanks to Richard for ID once again of some of the difficult (for me) insects. If you have not visited his blog I highly recommend it. Any mistakes on ID are very much my own as I sometimes think I know better than to ask!!!

18/05/2020 Yesterday's walk 7 km.

Maximum temperature here today 22⁰C, minimum 9⁰C. Dry. 13km/h North-Easterly cool wind with gusts up to 31 km/h.

I apologise for the slow posting of the 'photodiary' but we just appear to be extra busy with the garden, exercise, and cooking, we seem to keep running out of time!

So nice to be able to walk further than 1 km radius from home.

I saw 5 Common buzzards (Buteo buteo) playing in the sky within a few yards of leaving home. Presumably, the pair had successfully managed to bring up 3 youngsters, quite a feat. I could only manage 3 birds together at one time in a frame.

Hoverfly, I think it is (Episyrphus balteatus).

Hoverfly possibly (Syrphus ribesii).

Flag Iris seen in a small stream that I crossed.

Haybales under cover in the barn and plastic wrapped....

More haybales at the same farm. This must be last years hay as too early to cut for this year. Not sure why there is still so much here at this stage.
