21/06/2017 A few early photos before it got too hot!

Still forecast hotter for tomorrow!  Note it says 36C feels like 43C !!!!

Mr Sparrow looking somewhat disgruntled but I don't know why.

Even the bees are thirsty in this heat.

Bombylius species on the lavender...

as above on what I suspect is a weed!

Even the lizards are only coming out early and late.

Flower from a leek.

Courgette flower with many ants.

The day lilies are not going to last much longer.

Californian poppy with possibly an ant!

  1. Wow, that kind of heat can be pretty debilitating. On the coldest day in the winter I can dress up and stay warm, but it's impossible to escape the heat and humidity. Temperatures in the southwest (Arizona, Nevada, So. California) are starting to hit the mid forties and both people and wildlife are suffering. As a consequence of this heat the demand on the power grid is so great that periods of outage are becoming routine, and it's impossible to survive without air conditioning down there.

    1. I have to admit I would rather it was too hot than too cold. Our home has walls that are thick stone and it never gets that hot and a fan is enough if really necessary. If it is very cold we both hate it and no matter how much clothes we put on we both feel the cold badly - effects of living in Africa for 50 years I guess. I do not go out though any more that I have to other than early morning or late evening to water the garden. Water restrictions are already in further North so we might yet be hit by that!! Keep cool Diane

    2. Hi Diane: Our houses too are very well insulated as you can imagine in a northern climate, but I like to live outdoors and not have to hibernate because that is the only way I can escape the heat. The mere idea of staying inside most of the time seems totally alien to me.

    3. I also like to live outdoors, but I always have a backlog of things to do in the house so a few day semi shut in does not worry me. Lots of photos still to go through, I love painting and never have the time, and I have plenty of sewing I can do as well which is always put off! Diane
