The fountain on the outskirts of Angouleme just before the station.
The rail station.
One of Angouleme's many painted walls.
I must have driven past this building 100's of times and I have never noticed the carvings before!
More carvings in the centre of town.
The castle - and town hall now.
In the gardens of the Hotel Mercure...
as above showing the view.
Looking down onto the railway....

Roses in the garden, they had just had a shower.
Lunch at Chez Doud...
We were early so I could take a shot of the inside...
and the dessert menu...
Cheers.
Nigel was fascinated by this electric car...
as above.
Then the rain came down driving home, though we have not had much on our garden:-((
Marvelous wall paintings. Simply marvelous. And so much work. Plus, so much talent, to get such perspective.
ReplyDeleteNow this is a big place. Not a tiny village. :-)
Could see that it was a bit overcast, in the pictures. But quite perfectly, the rain held off, till your return trip.
That electric car, is teeny-tiny! Not much protection, in a collision, I fear. But it is cute!
Lana I really must take another walk around Angoulême, there are so many paintings and I am sure there are many I have not seen though I have seen a lot.
DeleteAngoulême is a commune, and the capital of the Charente department, yes it is a fairly big town.
Have a good weekend Diane
Oh, I love the paintings and carvings; just beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteThe color of the rose is magnificent.

Thanks Sally, it is a pretty town to walk around also with a magnificent cathedral. Take care and enjoy your weekend Diane
DeleteMurals are quite popular in Malaysia. They are a complete contrast to the ones in these photos, but they depict the local scenes too. They're a great way to add some vibrancy to a location.
ReplyDeleteStreet art is truly celebrated in the southwestern French town of Angoulême and it is also famous for its comic strip museum and paintings as well. Some paintings are so good that you really have to look to see that they are not real life. Have a great weekend Diane
DeleteSuch a beautiful city Diane and a delightful series of photographs. I hesitate to mention a particular one because I enjoyed them all. You have a great eye for taking photos.
ReplyDeleteIt is east taking photos in France, there is so much history everywhere that you really do not have to look to hard!! Happy weekend Diane

Angoulême has so much to offer. One needs a whole day there to just walk around and appreciate the art. There is also a fabulous cathedral which has just been renovated that is well worth a look, as our many of the other buildings. Hope all is well, best wished Diane
DeleteI remember seeing quite a bit of wall art when I last visited France. It really is quite wonderful and enlivens a cityscape.
ReplyDeleteDavid Angoulême is the town for street art and comic strips, so much to see there. Take care Diane
DeleteLove the fountain and the building paintings! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful town and much to see, an easy place to share :-))) Take care Diane
DeleteThe wall murals are fabulous Diane.. you are really so lucky to be surrounded by so many old and beautiful towns to explore. How frustrating it is when it rains but not on your garden. I've seen myself in the city where it is pouring thinking on yes at last, only to get home to find not a drop of wetness 😀
