27/04/2020 Day 41 of Lock down.....

Maximum temperature here today 19⁰C, minimum 10⁰C.  Some rain not measured yet.  12km/h South-Westerly wind with gusts up to 37 km/h.

Saturday we had a big hail storm and 32mm of rain in less than 30 mins.
With the strong winds, the water came under the door in the kitchen so we had a big mopping up operation!

Walking my small loop within the 1 km radius allowed is not all flat - looking up..

Looking behind from the same spot...

and if I am running out of my one hour time allowed, I can cut through on this track but the grass is now getting a bit long there!  I do not want to pick up ticks!!

Cattle enjoying the shade.

The lambs are quite big now.

Thirsty bees...

As above.

Bee on the apple blossom.

Chafer Beetle (Cetonia cuprea).

Spot the spider on the left in hiding (under the petal of the calendula) and the little fly in the centre...

Chomp, little fly for lunch.

I have never seen the Red Robin shrub so full of flower in the garden.

Hoverfly (Eristalis arbustorum) on the apple blossom.

CommonWall Lizard (Podarcis muralis).

Common Swallowtail or Old World swallowtail (Papilio machaon).

As above.

    1. Marie not really a lot to see, once you have walked it several times there is not even an insect in sight it seems! Take care Diane

  2. That first picture looks cold. The weather looks much better in the rest of your pictures. You always take such good close-ups. Here in Nashville today it was 23.6 C and by Saturday we are expecting 29 C! a bit warm for the season.

    1. So good to hear from you. It looks like we have a chilly and wet week ahead of us but next Monday looks like we are back to summer again. Take care and keep well, Diane

  3. You live in a lovely place where you can enjoy the beautiful nature around you. Pretty flowers and critters especially the butterfly.

    1. I have to agree we live in a lovely area but I I wish we had a 2 km radius instead of only one. On the other hand the lock-down is a great idea at the present time. Keep well Diane

    1. There is so much nature around and even more now I think without all the humans disturbing everything. Keep well Diane.

    1. It is a lovely walk but it gets somewhat uninteresting from the photographic point of view when you have no other choice!! I am lucky though I can get out when it is dry. Yesterday because the weather was iffy I walked 5 kms around the garden and even there, I managed a couple of unexpected photos, the camera is always with me! I do not though want to wear a path in the lawn so I keep that for rainy days! Hope all is well with you, Diane

  7. Beautiful photos, Diane. Really wonderful. I like the shot of the hail though I'm sorry the wind created a mess for you to clean up. Have a wonderful week ahead.

    1. Thankfully the rain and wind rarely come from that side of the house, I think it has happened about 4 times in the last 15 years and each time I (and this time we), managed to mop up before it reached the wooden cupboards. It looks like a dismal week and weekend but Monday the weather looks up again. Keep well, Diane

  8. That is an awful lot of rain in such a short period. I hope it was just mopping up that you had to do, Diane, and that no serious damage was caused. Hope you are still coping well with Covid-19.

    1. David we have barely noticed the lock-down as there has been so much to do. My main regret is no shopping, we are only allowed one person out, and as I have had pneumonia 3x Nigel insists that he goes every 2 weeks. I miss not looking for the difficult to find items and looking for bargains! Never mind he does a good job. Best wishes to you both, keeo well Diane

  10. Well, that's one way to clean the floor. How would anybody know if you were out longer than one hour? As always, love your insect shots. I'm going to have to try and shoot the bees on Mary's lavender.

    1. We have to carry a permit when out with the date and time of leaving home. If caught beyond the one hour by the police, first fine is €135.00, after that it gets very expensive. Even the first time is too expensive for me!
      Keep well Diane

  11. Things are so much stricter there than here Diane. Still if you only have an hour this is a very pretty walk, the French countryside is tres belle ✨ Fantastic macros here and last post. Hope you are both keeping well, look after yourselves 💙

    1. It has been strict here and I think mostly, certainly in the country, everyone has been pretty good about it. The past week has it has been raining all the time which is difficult as I want to get out and plant in the garden. Keep well and stay safe, Diane

  12. Your photography is gorgeous, as usual, Diane. Next month I'd been planning to go to Norfolk to see the Swallowtails - not any more, of course! I wish it was easier to find lizards in these parts.

My very best wishes to you both. Take great care, and stay safe - - - Richard

    1. Hi Richard, yes all our plans have gone adrift as well but rather try to be safe than sorry. We would just be happy to be able to go out together for a drive but until 11 May, (not far off now), we have not been able to do that. Only one person allowed out shopping at a time. After the 11th, so long as we do not go further than 100kms from home without very good reason we can at least just go for a drive.

Take care and keep well both of you. Diane

  13. We have no time limit on walks or being outside here, but have so many restrictions otherwise. Sounds like you had a good walk, I love those lambs! And the bee on the apple blossom! Take care

    1. I have to say Pam I will be happy when the 1km radius is lifted, I am more than fed up with the same walk all the time, shortage of photos as nothing much changes along the route. More seems to happen in the garden! I never see people on the walks I do so it is safe anyway. Take care Diane

  15. Loved each and every one Diane, super photos! But oh my goodness, what a hail storm that must have been. We had one several years ago and it did a lot of damage to our roof, the siding. Luckily our car was parked in the garage. I do hope you didn't have that kind of damage.

    1. Hi Denise, no all was well this time but the last hail storm we had broke 7 tiles and flooded the house. I was on my own while N was in the UK!!!! Hope all OK there, Diane
