Great Porch House, a Grade II Listed Building. There are 326 listed buildings in Devizes!!
A building is listed when it is of special architectural or historic interest considered to be of national importance and therefore worth protecting.
The Three Crowns Inn - another grade II listed building....
St Mary's Congregational Church - also grade II listed.
Just liked this shop with the typical British red post box at the side.
Handel House - yet another grade II listed building.
Christmas decoration seen at the old age home Needham house.
The black-headed gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus) in its winter plumage so no black head! Thanks David for the identification.
A lone pigeon.
Mute swan (Cygnus olor).
As above.
Loving having your comments but I will only get back to replying when we get home in January 😊
The swan’s head...perfect!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics!
ReplyDeleteLove that certain buildings are "Listed"!!! It is so very important.
ReplyDeleteHere we have similar listing, with a different name. Our small city rediscovered its Victorian Heritage, in the '70's. Thankfully! Just in time, to stop losing more 'Old-By-Our-History' buildings.
And I love the "Made Do 'N' Mend" store too. "Haberdashery"... a delightful old word.
Stay warm and well!

I think it is really commendable that so many buildings are designated as historic and are thereby protected.
ReplyDeleteLove the name of that shop, Make Do and Mend. We should be doing much more of that and much less consumption of new products.
ReplyDeleteLove.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place to visit, I like the different architectural styles of the buildings. Happy Holidays.

ReplyDeleteI'll bet those grade II buildings are expensive to maintain. I am glad they are protected.
