15/03/2018 Looking back at Tuesday! Scrabble at Vitrac.

Maximum temperature today 14C, minimum 7C.   6 mm of rain measured this morning and it has been raining heavily again all day; 11 km/h South Westerly winds with up to 32 km/h gusts.
337 mm of rain so far this year!  The cold is returning again next week!!

Sorry I am behind again.  Firstly the WiFi went down.  Then when we got it back, my computer updated, and then decided that it had lost all my personal settings!! Frustrating!!
The church Saint-Maixent (eleventh and 12th centuries). The first stone was laid in the year 1080 under the tutelage of the powerful lord of Chabanais. The church of Vitrac in the 12th century was as important as his sister in Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure.

Rivaillon, not as flooded as it was but normally this is a very small stream.

The bridge on the main road into town.

Looks like some one is having repairs done in the town with scaffolding up.

Heading into the Salle Communale to play scrabble....

The new kiosk at the back of the hall which will be nice when we have luncheons on sunny days with the doors open.

The people at the back are playing belote, a card game that is very popular here - too complicated for us!

We will stick to our French scrabble which is not easy, but I did actually win a game this week with a little help on a couple of words :-)

  1. Those bridges are more solid and secure than new ones in Florida!

    1. I am sure that everything that is still standing here after 100's of years is far better built than any new building!! Have a good weekend Diane

    1. Seeing my French is so hopeless it amazes me that I can play French scrabble, I dream up words that the french lady with has to check on her little electronic dictionary. LOL Enjoy your weekend Diane

  3. I used to love scrabble! It's so nice that you and Nigel enjoy getting out socially, Diane. That's something I need to do instead of being home so much.

Amazing you have buildings from so long ago. I appreciate your photos.

    1. Sally the whole of Europe is full of historic buildings, even our house is over 200 years old. It is good to get out and socialise. We are really the only English people that socialise with the French to any degree and I am sure is is appreciated. We actually know very few English people. Amazing how I cope as my French is useless, I cannot remember the right words, and French grammar is way beyond me. Luckily Nigel's French is pretty good so he can do all the complicated things. Hope you have a good weekend Diane

    1. Pam it is a lovely little town, but sadly, as with all the villages and small towns, the few local shops have closed down and we have to go further afield to shop. Scrabble in French is a whole different ball game!!! Hope you are well and you have a good weekend Diane

  5. I'm don't know what belote is but if it's too complicated I probably wouldn't like it. I used to be a scrabble fan though.

    1. Belote is only played with 32 cards, but they have lots of different shaped bits of plastic as well!!! If someone could explain it to me in English it might make more sense!! Scrabble in French when you have each verb with 37 different endings is more than complicated! Cheers Diane

    1. We only play scrabble. Nigel is not a big games player, but he likes French scrabble as it makes him think harder in French :-) Happy days, Diane

  8. Hi Diane. Lovely photos. I like playing scrabble and used to play a lot as a child with my sister and parents. I still have our old scrabble set. But I don't have anyone to play with now. Hope your weekend is going well. Kim xx

  9. I HATE Windows updates. Always screws something up. Scrabble must help you learn more French.

    1. Don't they just, always a problem afterwards but what can you do. Nope I learn no French from scrabble, many of the words I put down I do not even know what they mean. It is quite easy to play around with letters until something just looks French, but finding out all the meanings takes too much time!!!!!! Take care Diane
