17/03/2018 Not much in the garden today!

Maximum temperature today 11C, minimum 2C.   5 mm of rain measured this morning; 7 km/h North Westerly winds with up to 28 km/h gusts.
357 mm of rain so far this year!

Not an insect in sight today, not even a fly! This male blackbird seemed to be doing well in the wet soil finding worms though. (Turdus merula.)

The camellia are struggling in this weather and are going brown very quickly.

Someone lost a feather!

Japanese Quince (Chaenomeles japonica)

As above.

Red robin.

Unknown!  Maybe if it opens up more I can work out what it is.

Hyacinth.

Viola.

Wild violets.

  2. I would imagine that the wet conditions are good for ground-feeding thrushes.

  4. I do hope the cold weather doesn't kill off the flowers. I especially like the violas.

    1. The violas seem to survive heavy frosts but they are the only ones that cope well. Happy week :-) Diane

  6. You managed to get some beautiful photos despite the rain and the cold. Our temperature is about the same as yours but your blossoms are well ahead of ours. The cherry blossoms just started a few days ago. In another week or so there should be something to photograph assuming the weather cooperates. Have a greaet Sunday.

    1. Our cherry trees are only in bud so they are behind yours. Think all the plants are totally confused with the strange weather we are having! Next week we have another cold spell looming, I hope the cold snaps are coming to and end but it may be wishful thinking!!!!! Hope you have a good week Diane

  8. When you find a feather (especially a white one) it means someone who has died is thinking of you. Beautiful pictures.
