Maximum temperature here today 22⁰C, minimum 16⁰C. Raining as I type. 5km/h South Easterly winds with gusts up to 18 km/h.
Still far behind but I am slowly catching up!
I was a bit late to catch the best of this sunset a couple of nights ago!
Wall Brown (Lasiommata megera) female.
As above.
Great potter wasp (Delta unguiculata).
Common potter wasp (Eumenes coarctatus).
Yellow Autumn Crocus or Autumn Daffodil (Sternbergia lutea).
Green stink bug nymph, (Chinavia halaris)...
As above.
Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas)...
As above...
A better specimen of the Small Copper taken the following day.
Bee on the Sedum...
As above.
Common Wall Lizard (Podarcis muralis). I thought it might be smelling the flowers, but I think it is far more likely that it is waiting for an unsuspecting meal.
Common blue butterfly (Polyommatus icarus)...
Oops, I left a light on and the following was the result....
Yellow Shell moth (Camptogramma bilineata).
Mother of Pearl moth, (Patania ruralis).
Small Dusty Wave moth (Idaea seriata).
This moth I am not sure of!!
One of the Plume moths.
My local list of wildflowers. (90 Species 23/08/2020).
You can always grab my attention by starting with a fabulous sunset like that, Diane!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful selection of insect photos, quite a few of which I am unfamiliar with. Although I'm a bit into moths these days, I can't help with those two you have not managed to ID, and it would be dangerous for me to try as you will have a different set of moths to choose from those to be found in UK. I will just say that the first looks somewhat similar to Grey Arches, and the second, if in UK, I would guess at Common Plume.
So sorry to have been so late in publishing and replying to your last two comments on my blog - somehow managed to miss that you'd left a comment to be moderated..
Best wishes to you both - - - Richard
Hi Richard, We seem to have the best sunsets around this time of the year, I took a beauty a couple of days ago that reminded us so much of an African sunset - next post.
DeleteI do not often get to photograph moths and my book insects of Britain and Europe does not cover that many.
Hope you have a good week and take care, Diane
Such great photos. The details you capture always amaze me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marie, I try to capture detail but it does not always work!! Keep well and enjoy the week Diane
DeleteAwesome sky shot. I love all the insect photos. You photograph really well and it always looks like a spotlight in shining on your subjects.
ReplyDeleteHi Penny and thanks for the comment. I always try to get the insects in the sun but that does not always happen!! Winter seems to have suddenly descended on us so sun shots are going to become increasingly difficult!
DeleteTake care and stay safe, Diane
Hi Diane - that sunset must have been stunning in all its glory ... but we get one each day ... so I'll look forward to more - especially your next ones - as you've tempted us.
ReplyDeleteYou do take great photos - and those moth ones are amazing aren't they ... delightful ... and I'm so pleased you identify those you can for us.
This is our last day of warmth ... then autumn is here, as no doubt winter will follow! Take care and enjoy the waning of the days ... Hilary
Not sure Hilary that we actually get to see one each day though. The last few days have been all cloud! I was surprised how many moths came in when I left the light on by mistake, but they also all seemed to find their way back out after I turned the light off!
DeleteYes winter seems to have arrived here and the rest of this week is certainly not very warm and it is also wet.
Take care and have a good week. Diane
Hi Diane - I forgot the lizard ... he looks quite large - so needs the extra feeding ... and what a lovely photo of him/her ... they are extraordinary creatures. Bye again! - Hilary
ReplyDeleteI think the lizards are just fattening up so they can disappear for winter but I hope to see a few more around yet. I am very fond of 'our' lizards. Diane
DeleteGorgeous sunset Diane, those temperatures sound perfect 💛 Gosh even the French moths are beautiful! Yourself and my daughter share a love of macro photography, takes patience which I'm a bit short on 😉 it's a nice feeling when you start getting on top of things, I'm about to start a bathroom renovation, so it will be a while for me 💜
ReplyDeleteTemperatures this week have dropped and it feels quite chilly outside! I love macro but I do not have a macro lens, my TAMRON Megazoom - 18-400 mm does all the work. Apart from the apples I feel like I am getting somewhere, most of the other things in the garden now are just collect and eat or like butternuts they will store well. Take care and stay safe Diane
DeleteThe sunset will make us all rejoice, Diane. What a great gallery of insect shots, most of which you have been able
ReplyDeleteto identify. I find moths difficult too!
David I really need separate books on moths, butterflies, beetles, dragons and spiders, my all in one insects of Europe is very limited. Having said that my book of wildflowers has so much in it that I can never find what I am looking for!!
DeleteBoth of you keep well and take care Diane
You have captured a beautiful sunset. Great photos of critters.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy, hope all is well over there, take care Diane
DeleteI love the butterflies. I can never get the ones around here to sit still for a photo.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
At times they can be very frustrating and I am not a patient person!!! Keep well Diane
DeleteSo many cool shots but I am loving that sunset!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam, sunsets are almost always interesting. Keep safe Diane
DeleteStunning photo in your first shot Diane. And I always love your butterflies and other insects, and those beautiful flowers. Thanks for sharing, they always make me smile.
ReplyDeleteHappy to make you smile :-) Keep well Diane
DeleteIndeed taking the sunset moment object is not easy but you can do it well.
ReplyDeleteLikewise with the lizzard object, bee butterflies and others.
You can aim precisely at it.
What a shot.
Have a nice day
Regards
Thanks Justcherry for the very kind comment, good to hear from you. Take care and stay safe Daine
DeleteThat's a gorgeous sunset. I am always amazed that butterflies can fly with battered wings. The moths come in so many shapes and colors. Fantastic shots.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gaelyn, I agree some of the butterflies you would think could never fly at all but they seem to manage well!! hope all well over there, Diane
DeleteI enjoyed your post. The wasp is so nice to see. great photo.
ReplyDeleteHi Aritha, thanks for the comment. Hope all is well with you and the family. Diane
DeleteThank you for sharing these incredible and beautiful photos, they are all spectacular.
ReplyDeleteNature is extraordinary!
You are so right, nature is extraordinary, beautiful and kind and also angry and viscous!! I just hope all the these insects and animals survive the changing times! Thanks for the comment, Diane
DeleteBeautiful sunset and you certainly have a knack with capturing insects. You either have a lot of patience or the insects just enjoy poising for you. 😊
ReplyDeleteKaren I have no patience at all, they have to stop in seconds or I gave up 🦋 Glad that you can now post again. Keep safe Diane
DeleteHow beautiful your macro photo of the insect nymphs smell of green is made of green ..., it looks very clear and detailed.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed by your camera shots. Greetings from Indonesia.
Thanks so much for the visit and the comment, appreciated. Keep well Diane
DeleteSuper photos! I always enjoy your critters and flowers. The plume moth is extraordinary and the Green stink bug nymph is very striking. Happy day to you Diane and thanks for all these lovely shares :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise, sorry I am not visiting that often, things are getting a little quieter now so I hope to get back to normal very soon. Hope all is well over the Diane
DeleteYou are really getting some beautiful skies over there.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be at certain times of the year that happen. I often miss them though as the office is upstairs (where I often am) and only has a roof light. Cheers Diane
