Photos taken while in Africa - because of poaching I am not stating where they were seen, we travelled to many places.

Maximum temperature in the Charente today 14C, minimum 0C. Dry. 13km/h North-Easterly winds with gusts up to 25 km/h!!

Impala, (Aepyceros melampus). An interesting fact about the Impala is that mothers can delay giving birth for a month if the weather conditions are harsh. 

Waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus) facing the camera and Hartebeest, (Alcelaphus buselaphus), with its back to the camera.

African buffalo or Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer).

Young South African giraffe (Giraffa giraffa).

White rhinoceros or square-lipped rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum).  This animal is a hand-reared orphan returned to the wild after its mother was killed by poachers!!  Hopefully, it will have a better life than its mother

The rare occasion of elephant twins. African elephant (Loxodonta), they were only a couple of weeks old...

Male lion (Panthera leo). The female was hiding behind a bush. They were both fat and lazy ofter a meal of zebra...

Yellow mongoose (Cynictis penicillata), sometimes referred to as the red meerkat.

30/04/2017 Wet day and I have been catching up with photos taken on our trip to Botswana in February, so here are a few of them.

Maximum temperature 18C, minimum 6C. 29 kmh with 50 kmh gusts SW wind. Cloud and sun.  Quite a bit of rain not measured as yet.
Waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus).

Black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas).

Young Zebra.  Burchell's zebra. (Equus burchelli).

Broad-bordered grass yellow  (Eurema brigitta).

Brown Veined White  (Belenois aurota).

Crimson-breasted shrike (Laniarius atrococcineus).

Elegant Grasshopper (Zonocerus elegans).

South African giraffe  (Giraffa giraffa giraffa).

Red hartebeest (Alcelaphus buselaphus caama).

White rhinoceros or square-lipped rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum).

Baboon in hiding!  Family (Cercopithecidae).

Wait for me Mum.  Elephant  (Loxodonta africana).

Pied kingfishers (Ceryle rudis).

19/03/2017 Horrible weather, sewing all day, so a few more photos from our African holiday.

Maximum temperature 13C, minimum 8C.  21km/h SW wind. Steady drizzle or mist all day.

07/03/2017 It has pretty much drizzled all day today so a couple of indoor shots, plus a few more from our holiday.

Maximum temperature 11C, minimum 4C.  51km/h NW wind. 2 mm of rain measured this morning.

05/03/2017 A couple of updated photos. The remainder are from our South African holiday.

Maximum temperature 13C, minimum 2C.  45km/h NW wind. 16 mm of rain measured this morning.
Last nights menu at the local repas.

I was honoured and delighted to find myself sitting next to our mayor.

09/02/17 - 1. Whitish with orange wingtip near front of picture - male Common Orange Tip (Colotis evenina) underside of wing.
2. Yellow with open wings and black border around wings - male Broad-bordered grass yellow (Eurema brigitta)
3. Yellow with closed wings with small dots on them - female of 2
4. Pale yellow at the back with black wingtip and black stripe next to it - hard to tell, but looks like it might be Lemon Tip (Colotis subfasciatiatus)

10/02/17 - A white springbok, this is caused by selective breeding on some ranches.  See the black springbok yesterday.  Leopard Park, North-West Province of South Africa.
