We saw these sunflowers close to Voulême, Poitou-Charentes, where we had planned to visit....
As above.
We crossed La Charente river to enter the town.
Eglisse Saint Hilaire
as above, but sadly the only door we could find, see above, was closed
Next to the church was Edna's, a pub ,tea rooms and restaurant which is where we had planned on stopping off for a drink....
The pub inside. We had a drink and some yummy chocolate cake ! Not on the diet!
Opposite the church was this B & B, La Lavandiėre. The owner was outside tending the garden so we stopped to speak to him. The short hello became a very long chat with lots of memories involved when we discovered he was from South Africa. The house has just been completely restored and it looks like the ideal spot to stay for someone visiting the area.
On the other side of the road behind the church, these 4 horses were quietly grazing.
Driving back home past maize fields...
poppies...
and quite close to home, where Nigel had spotted them the day before cycling minus his camera, were these alpacas...
as above...
