30/08/2018 Around the garden.

Maximum temperature today 23C, minimum 15C.  Dry today but we had a very welcome 8mm of rain early on Wednesday morning; 10 km/h South-easterly winds with up to 28 km/h gusts.

I think we have the cleanest birds in France, I filled the water up 5 times today!

The sparrow closest seems a bit reluctant...

Still thinking about it...

Getting braver...

Mmmm that was actually quite good.

Wood pigeon (Columba palumbus) drinking - you can see the size comparison with the House Sparrow (Passer domesticus).  Photos were taken from the same distance.

A common wall lizard watching on. (Podarcis muralis)

Rose bud...

24 hours later.

Cosmos....

and with a bug.

Garlic chives.

Last nights sunset...

As above taken down the road.

Figs drying, this is the second batch and the tree is full.

    1. They are over very quickly in the hotter weather :-(. I could spend hours (if I had the time) waching the birds. Take care Diane

  3. Beautiful photos Diane. The sunset is stunning and the little sparrows splashing about are so cute. I love watching the little birds splash around but can never get a photo myself.

    1. Penny I agree the birds are so cute in the bath. I seldom got photos of any other birds in the bath other than the sparrows, the others are gone like a flash as soon as I lift the camera!! Keep well and take care Diane

  4. The reluctant sparrow looks like a young bird. Perhaps like human kids mom has to say, “Go and clean up!” And I have to tell you Diane de la Charente, you are sorely tempting me with those figs. Perhaps I will put a mortgage on the house so that I can go out and buy some here! I am sure that if you exercise all the ingenuity you can muster, get together with Nigel, work out a plan, devise a scheme, hatch a plot, you can figure out some way to send me a bushel or two. Or better still deliver them yourself - I’ll make dinner. And unlike at home you won’t even have to scramble between courses to do the dishes!

    2. Now that’s a tempting offer. Please leave the keys to the wine cellar and let me know the fromagerie where I can order the cheeses on your account.

  8. The sparrows are so sweet Diane, lovely series of images. Beautiful rose, as much as they like hot weather sometimes it gets a bit too much even for them 🌹 The figs look delicious, you have a healthy supply there. Glorious sunsets. Sounds like it might be starting to cool down a wee bit. Have a lovely weekend, relax ☺

    1. I do not have this amount of luck with birds other than in the garden!! The sunset does not compare with yours, but you have the best settings in the world I think 😊

  10. I love your bathing birds Diane, and the flowers and little visitor. Lizard is a cutie too, skies are impressive and I'm going to buy some figs next time we go to the store. Won't be as nice as yours though :) Enjoy your weekend.

    1. Denise I cannot belive how many figs we have this year. I could pick and dehydrate daily if I had the will power and time to keep cutting them into quarters. I am doing it every other day at present though!. The birds are delightful. Take care and have a good Sunday. Diane

  13. Your photo's are always nothing short of magical. I love these! My brother was the only one of us who really liked figs; Mom would make fig preserves, now I could get into those. :)
