Maximum temperature here today 12C, minimum 5C. Rain measured this morning 5mm, rain later this afternoon not measured as yet. We are now at 229 mm this year, double what we had at the same time last year. 22km/h North-westerly wind with gusts up to 51 km/h.
I managed to go out for a walk midday and to get home dry after 8.5 kms. Saturday I did 7.3 kms so I feel like I am getting a bit fitter than I was!!
This was Saturdays walk trying to keep away from the muddy paths where I generally walk; they were just too wet!
Interesting lintel over a window
A stone dog guards an entrance.
Street lights.
800 year old church of Saint Maixent.
Looking down onto the centre of the village.
Just another house but I like the entrance.
The picnic spot.
The little bridge over the stream through the village...
it is flowing fast but it is not over the banks (yet).
The junior school.
A path I tried to take but did not get far, too much mud!
A bank of daffodils.
Back yard chickens...
As above...
as above.
Back yard donkey. Generally, he is friendly (and noisy), but today he just ignored me!!
The top part of a bell outside a gateway.
Roof tops.
Walking home I took a chance along the river, it was quite stony so little mud.
Celandine and bugs.
Leaving the river and walking back to the road a tractor had been in front of me, it was a bit muddy but passable.
Hello home, back at our little hamlet of 10 houses.

DeleteBeautiful photos, Diane! Love the stone dog, he looks like he's on guard duty! The old church is stately and I like that house too with the inviting entrance way. Don't think I've ever seem the Celandine plant before, very pretty! Love all the green, etc, not much green here yet, but soon will be as it's raining today. Your hamlet looks really inviting too! :-))

DeleteBeautiful countryside where you live. You look miles away from civilisation but probably not. I guess you are fed up with rain by now. We have had a lot lately too but we needed it after months of drought. How/why did you decide to live there?
ReplyDeleteHi Diane, we are in the centre of farming country. Our closest big town is Angoulême about 40 mins away to get the the station. Our closest airport that flies anywhere sensible is Bordeaux a couple of hours away though we can get to London from Limoges 1 hour away. How and why take a look at

Hi Diane - well I enjoyed that walk!! Very spring like ... but such great things to see ... wonderful place to be able to just walk out, ramble and see ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI can walk for miles if I want without seeing a soul it is a lovely area with lots of history. The Resistance memorial is not far from us. We are on the WW11 demarcation line which cut the Charente in two unequal parts from north to south. communications with the "free zone", roughly speaking the Confolens area, were very limited. Telegrams sent by the administration and by private individuals were monitored. Frontier posts and a customs cordon ran parallel to the demarcation line. The Germans, who controlled 14 crossing points, demanded a pass. Crossing the demarcation line clandestinely was severely punished. Cheers Diane
DeleteGreat shots of your beautiful surroundings and cute critters.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy, it is a lovely place to walk or cycle, the latter though I have given up though the bike still awaits me!! Take care Diane
DeleteI am impressed in two fronts, Diane. First that you are getting out in mere 12 degree conditions and second that you are walking impressive distances. Bravo on both counts! And I enjoyed coming along.
ReplyDeleteLOL so happy to have impressed you. Glad you enjoyed the virtual walk with me. Good job I have some warm cycling clothes that I was forced to buy in the UK. Best wishes to you both, Diane

DeleteOh that was a wonderful walk Diane, would love to walk if with you. Gosh what a lot of rain you have had, I'm beginning to think it's never going to rain again here! Btw, unfortunately my cough is back for a while, couldn't be at a worse time, people tend to panic these days if anyone coughs, it's definitely not the coronavirus 😉
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling with a cough at the present time. I also regularly have sneezing fits, just something that I have always had!! We are just trying not to go out any more than necessary. Luckily I can walk around here without seeing anyone if I want to, lots of countryside! Take care and have a good day, Diane
