20/01/2022 Three weeks since my last post - I must do better !

  The maximum temperature here today is 7C, minimum 2⁰C. Blue skies but with quite a lot of clouds. Wind 15km/h North-Easterly winds with gusts up to 33 km/h.  4mm of rain was measured this morning.  We have had a very chilly week, today thankfully it is a bit warmer. 

The Christmas decorations in our supermarket just after New Year....

and the window of my hairdresser with reflections from outside and the lights inside.

Fascinating clouds that just caught my eye.

A Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) on a frosty morning.

A walk around the January garden......

A raindrop showing the house upside down!

European Holly (Ilex aquifolium).  No berries this year!!

Pampas Grass (Cortaderia selloana).

Hydrangea dried on the plant.

Calendula (Calendula officinalis).

Viburnum tinus.

A surviving but very brave rose.

We have had a few icy mornings.

Eurasian Running Crab Spider (Philodromus dispar) on the poinsettia.

14 January

16 January about 20 minutes before the Full Wolf Moon.  Clouds moved in about an hour after taking this photo!

19 January after a very stormy day.

A lovely surprise 9 January when this Cirl Bunting ( Emberiza cirlus) was spotted on the verandah.

21/06/2021 The last of the photos waiting from May!

 The maximum temperature here today 23⁰C, minimum 13⁰C.  Lots of rain over the past week - 79 mm.  Wind 14km/h  North Westerly winds with gusts up to 40 km/h.    More rain forecast.

Love in a Mist (Nigella damascena).  Californian poppies in the background.

Hoverfly next to the Rhododendron flower.

Dog roses (Rosa canina).  They are wild here, but we have them growing vigorously in one of the cotoneaster shrubs

Viola (Violaceae family).

Chafer beetle (Oxythyrea funesta).

Common Wall Lizards (Podarcis Muralis)... spot that new tail!

As above.  She looks like she might well be pregnant!

Black vine weevil (Otiorhynchus sulcatus). I think, or Dark Vader from outer space.

I was about to throw these roses out that were in a vase in the house, (they had survived 2 weeks so they had done very well), and then I spotted an intruder.

Longhorn beetle possibly a male (Stenocorus cursor).

Western Honey Bee (Apis mellifera).

Shield Bug (Graphosoma Italicum)...

Small tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae).

Potatoes growing well.

and a climbing rose.

24/10/2020 Trying once again to catch up!!!

  Maximum temperature here today 18⁰C, minimum 11⁰C.  43 mm rain measured in the last 24 hours...   22km/h South-westerly winds with gusts up to 43 km/h.   We have had some very strong winds, but luckily no major damage other than a few minor branches that have come down

Cyclamen

Calendula note the very small fly !

Sedum.

Possibly an edible mushroom but we did not try it.

So many acorns this year, almost worth buying a pig to have a clean up!

Red Admiral  (Vanessa atalanta).

Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas)...

Speckled Wood  (Pararge aegeria).

Cuckoo Bee (Epeolus fallax) with a crab spider. Obviously not tasty as the spider ignored it...

As above.  The spiders take remarkably large prey at times, but also this may be a little too large.

Autumn Daffodil or Crocus (Sternbergia lutea).

Gendarme beetle (Pyrrhocoris apterus).

Common wall lizards (Podarcis muralis) that will soon be going into hibernation enjoying a few rays of sunshine.

Golden Rod Crab spider (Misumena vatia).

Cotoneaster berries.

Euonymus in its autumn colours.

Great banded furrow-bee (Halictus scabiosae) on the cosmos,

Common Blue female (Polyommatus icarus).

Large white (Pieris brassicae)...

As above...

As above.
