Not good!!! We discovered an Asian hornet nest in our oak tree today, it has to be reported and removed!!
The second and I suspect the last rose still hanging on.
I love all of these photos. The sparrows are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marie, we have so many here and I am always happy to see them. Take care Diane
DeleteI can understand why you cannot get further than your garden. It's so nice. I'll miss the roses.
ReplyDeleteI will also miss the roses but I can look forward to them next year :-) Keep well Diane
DeleteI'm not sure, but those puffballs look familiar. I'm guessing that they are poisonous? We used to go foraging for mushrooms when I was young and these look similar to something we were told to avoid.
ReplyDeleteApparently those are not poisonous but there are some very similar that are! I would prefer not to try and find out!!! Keep well Diane
DeleteThat is a massive hornet's nest, Diane! Beautiful series.
ReplyDeleteYes Linda it is. It has been reported, and as it is so high in the tree they have said leave it be as it so late in the year it will hopefully just collapse. We will have to watch carefully next year in case they return. It is very difficult to see and I only found it because I was trying to see the woodpecker that I could hear in the tree!! Take care Diane
DeleteHi Diane: Sorry not have visited too much recently. I am in Croatia right now, sometimes in areas with intermittent WIFI. Add to that the fact that we are out birding early, usually not getting back to our accommodation until late and you will understand. In another week we will be heading back home.
ReplyDeleteI guessed that you were away. Always difficult to keep in touch while enjoying yourself on holiday, I fully understand I have the same problem when absent from home. Just relax and enjoy your holiday. Take care and travel safely, Diane
DeleteWith a garden like your, Diane, I'm not sure that I'd want to get any further from it! Delightful!
ReplyDeleteWith my very best wishes - - - Richard
Thank you Richard. The garden gets a lot more difficult in winter for photos but then we are never here in December as FIL in the UK needs company! Keep well and take care, cheers Diane
DeleteYour have taken great photos from your garden and there is no need to go further. Though the hornet is dangerous but the nest has a pretty design.
ReplyDeleteNancy I agree the nest is beautifully built!!! I hope you have a good weekend Diane
DeleteI love your macros Diane! Very sweet wee sparrows, pretty odd looking fungi, eew! I remember a few years ago finding a hornets nest in one of my trees, was interesting to watch them remove it all dressed in their protective gear 😊
ReplyDeleteWe had a European Hornet nest removed a few weeks ago fro our roof. This one is about 10 metres up in the oak tree. We have reported it, and the general consensus is that as it is so late in the year they will leave it (unless there is a problem) as it should fall apart in the cold weather. We have to watch carefully in case another one appears next year. Almost impossible to see high up with full leaf coverage!!! Hope you have a good weekend Diane
DeleteEuuuuuuuuuuuw... Big hornets nest. Good you discovered it.
ReplyDeleteLovely rose.
Interesting fungus. A bit scary looking, actually.
Love puff balls. :-)
Happy Friday the 13th!

Re the hornets nest, see my reply above. I agree that fungus is very weird it is in two places!!!
DeleteFriday 13 went of well with no mishaps :-)
Enjoy your weekend Diane
The fungus is most intriguing. You do find very interesting things to photograph each day.
ReplyDeleteYou also find some amazing things to photograph. Take care Diane
DeleteI so enjoy wandering your garden. Except for the hornets' nest.
ReplyDeleteYes wish I had spotted that nest a bit earlier in the year but is is well hidden! Keep well Diane
