13/10/2017 Friday the 13th - Join us on a drive to Roussines to try a new (to us) restaurant.

Maximum temperature 24C, minimum 10C.  10 km/h SE winds, 17 km/h gusts. Dry.

I took quite a few photos so will  spread them over two days as nothing much planned for tomorrow except the nurse coming to give us our flu injections!
Just down the road from home we noticed many fields of what I think is sorghum.  Not a crop we have noticed previously.

Love these country roads.  Watch out for deer crossing :-)....

some quite sharp corners along the way.

We always meet a tractor somewhere!

Entering the small town of Roussines...

The mayors office with the customary war memorial...

WWI, a small town and 4 members of the Vimpere family...

and sadly WWII takes yet another member of the family.

The old weighbridge...

I was trying to get a photo of the scales inside but all I succeeded in getting was a selfie!!!

I moved right up close to the glass and yes the original old scales are still there.

Watch this space for the rest of the photos tomorrow :-)

    1. I don't think there is a town in France that does not have a war memorial. Every 11 November there is a service and every name is read out. They are never forgotten. Take care and have a good weekend Diane

  4. Hello Diane,
So... I thought you would show us a.... deer crossing!!! LOL!
About the sorghum, I guess the farmers have an obligation to alternate the crops according to Brussels and the weather. I rainy seasons they should plant water thirsty plants such as sunflower and corn, sorghum should be planted when a dryer season comes up.
you mde me laugh with your selfie!!! But you managed to catch the scale!!
I bet you're enjoying this indian summer, I did up in the mountains!
Gentle hugs and have a great weekend :)

    1. Thanks Donienne, yes the wars were bad. So sad to see 5 names of the same family all from a small town.
There are quite a few old weighbridges around, some better restored than others. Hope your weekend is good. Diane

  7. Looks like you enjoyed your outing, on Fri. the 13th!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh that poor family. It certainly did its part, in the war(s) effort. It's a wonder, there were enough left, to continue the line. -sigh-

  8. I love your selfie, Diane! Such a beautiful and fascinating place. War memorials touch my heart deeply, because my father was a POW in WWII. Thank you so much for sharing.

  9. We grow a good bit of sorghum here. It's used for animal feed and to make molasses which is a syrup that tastes bad in my opinion. It's being touted as a new grain to compete with wheat on our dinner plates.

Great pictures and commentary, my favorite was the inadvertent selfie.

    1. Why do people have to have wars - just because someone has something that they do not have - greed. Take care Diane.
