Since we have been here the weather has been fairly mild and I have only been caught in a couple of light showers. I was not sure if I would have time to blog while here in the UK, but I could not resist sharing this lovely walk yesterday with you all.
The Kennet & Avon Canal has awesome examples of canal engineering. The 16 locks that form the steepest part of the flight at Caen Hill are not only a scheduled ancient monument, they are an Olympic sized challenge every boater must do. Caen Hill (pronounced ‘cane’ ), is one of the longest continuous flight of locks in the country - a total of 29 locks with a rise of 237 feet over 2 miles with a 1 in 44 gradient for anyone who's counting!

Just loved the reflection here on the very still water.

Out for a walk.
I have updated my bird blog HERE.
Good morning Diane: It is great to hear from you! What a lovely walk! I am sure that you enjoyed getting out in the fresh air and I am glad to hear that the weather is mild for you. I must get out and walk today. Yesterday we had Christmas at our house and I think I ate enough for the week! And we also have enough leftovers for the week! I think next year we will have salad for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHi David, thanks for the comment and the one on the last post as well. We are lucky that the canal is closeby, if the weather is mild it is a pleasant walk. I see my walker is telling me that I have walked 37km this month and certainly most of it has been here, the couple of weeks before we left France was very wet and I do not like rain! We also eat too much, only the 3 of us and we had a small goose. It has already done Christmas day and one other and it will still do another couple of meals yet!! It was delicious though. Take care Diane
DeleteJust the green grass everywhere! Hardly seems like winter!
ReplyDeleteMarie no matter how chilly it gets here the grass seems to remain green. Hope it is not too cold there, Keep well Diane
DeleteDiane, you are still blogging?! Love tp see the boat. And the refelction is "schitterend". What a lovely walk.
ReplyDeleteThanks Aritha I was stunned by the non-moving water and the reflections. Hope all is well, take care Diane
DeleteWhat lovely and nice pictures like always . This last dog is your Diane.
ReplyDeleteHappy and lovely holidays !!
I have no dogs now Gloria and I do miss them but with travelling it is not fair to keep putting them into kennels.
DeleteHave a good day and enjoy the holidays, Diane
Looks like you had a wonderful walk and I enjoy following you on your walk through the photos. I like the narrowboat on the canal. Love the walking dogs too!
ReplyDeleteMany people live full time in the narrowboats on the canal, not sure I could live in somwhere quite so small, but I would quitr like to try a holiday in one in summer!! Nice place to walk. Take care Diane
DeleteSo glad you were able to show us what it's like where you and Nigel are. Very interesting, and great (actually awesome) photo's, Diane.

Thanks Sally for the kind comment. Happy New Year, Diane xx
DeleteThis is a lovely place to walk. Those are some large house-boats, an inviting lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Gaelyn you would probably enjoy some time in a narrow boat, too small for us but you are used to it. The main problem is you have to follow the waterways!! Take care Diane
DeleteIt continues to amaze me the ingenuity of people of the past.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the locks are a brilliant idea and of course in the old days the towpaths were used by horses pulling the boats. Happy New Year. Cheers Diane
