22/01/2019 Cars, Bath and around Devizes

Saw this Morris Minot in the car park the other day.  Having owned one in recent years I still have a soft spot for this icon of the car world.

The Paragon in Bath.  My grandparents used to live here in the 1940's.  They actually lived in two of the houses here at different times but I cannot now remember the numbers.  

Love the Minor but the Porsche is still our favourite.

Devizes is a truly historic town and so full of history.  I try not to put too much information on the photodiary, so I have posted more about the town (part 2) on My Life In the Charente 2 with lots more information which might interest many of you.

We return home at the end of the month and I am not sure when I will have time for another post but will probably see you in February.

Join me on a walk along the towpath of the Kennet and Avon Canal......

Since we have been here the weather has been fairly mild and I have only been caught in a couple of light showers.  I was not sure if I would have time to blog while here in the UK, but I could not resist sharing this lovely walk yesterday with you all.

The Kennet & Avon Canal has awesome examples of canal engineering. The 16 locks that form the steepest part of the flight at Caen Hill are not only a scheduled ancient monument, they are an Olympic sized challenge every boater must do.  Caen Hill (pronounced ‘cane’ ), is one of the longest continuous flight of locks in the country - a total of 29 locks with a rise of 237 feet over 2 miles with a 1 in 44 gradient for anyone who's counting!

16/12/2017 A few more photos around Devizes.

Taken through the lounge window, a male blackbird in the apple tree.

The building to which this doorway provides access was erected in 1785 by John Anstie, for the manufacture of woollen cloth. It was one of the first cloth factories in the West of England and the sculpture shows some of the processes used.

The former Nags Head public house, a Grade II listed building, which now appears to have been converted into flats.

 The Kennet and Avon Canal is a waterway in southern England with an overall length of 140kms  (87 miles) between Bristol and London.
