Saw this Morris Minot in the car park the other day. Having owned one in recent years I still have a soft spot for this icon of the car world.
The Paragon in Bath. My grandparents used to live here in the 1940's. They actually lived in two of the houses here at different times but I cannot now remember the numbers.
Love the Minor but the Porsche is still our favourite.
On the bridge over the canal.
An energetic rower, I guess the upper half is keeping warm. Just wondering how cold the feet maybe!
Devizes cemetery...
Gorgeous old building. There are various dates for the opening here but it dates from the mid-1800's
A drive-by sunset.
Back at the canal...
A working narrowboat.
Dogs meeting, owners invited.
A watering point, and I presume originally a drinking trough.
Out for a walk away from the dogs 😊
One of my FIL's ex-carers took pity on us all and arrived with this lovely bouquet of flowers. Thanks George much appreciated.
Devizes is a truly historic town and so full of history. I try not to put too much information on the photodiary, so I have posted more about the town (part 2) on My Life In the Charente 2 with lots more information which might interest many of you.
We return home at the end of the month and I am not sure when I will have time for another post but will probably see you in February.
Lovely pictures. Old cemeteries are often picturesque. I have to say that is one mean looking cat.
ReplyDeleteI love that chapel in the old cemetery it is very attractive. The cat was fine, it just wnated to join me and it was too close to take another photo. Hope your knee is better Diane
DeleteI am sure that the flowers were very well recieved. It is perhaps not an entirely masculine thing to confess, but I love to have cut flowers in the house, and a friend of mine, who felt that I had done favours for her, sent me flowers recently. I was delighted! Your visit to England seems to providing many pleasant diversions. Please continue to enjoy your time there.
ReplyDeleteI agree flowers can brighten the day. We have a bunch of daffodils in the house as well which are very bright and cheery. FIL is a big struggle and we are both still not 100%, we will be glad to get home, but it is not going to be easy for my SIL who arrives the day before we leave. We have to get back, N's passport is about to run out and must be renewed and our medication is also getting low! Keep warm Diane
DeleteGreat photos, Diane. You know I always love your sunsets. Hugs, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI like skies in almost any form, clouds can be so interesting. Take care Diane
DeleteLovely photos of this interesting place. Love the old church.
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane, the cemetery is a vary relaxing spot and so peaceful. Lovely old building. Take care t'other Diane
DeleteBeautiful photos from around Devizes. I like the dogs meeting and owners invited which makes me smile. I am sure the dogs wouldn't want to have anything to do with that black cat. So thoughtful of George to send flowers to cheer you all up. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy, I also had to laugh at the dogs meeting, The flowers were a delight to have and they make the house so much brighter on a winter's day 🌼 Have a good day, Diane
DeleteA lot of beauty in these photos. You took splendid ones Diane. I have enjoyed this little window into my own memories of home, thank you :)
ReplyDeleteDelighted to have brought back memories for you hopefully they are good ones 😉 Happy days Diane
DeleteYes thanks, all good ones :)
Deletewhat beautiful and wonderful pictures Diane! I like these dogs!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL it seems everyone takes their dogs for walks along the canal. Have a good day Diane
DeleteJust back from a chilly winter in Austria I have a true understanding for what you mean by chilly toes.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine, Austria is beautiful but better to visit in Summer 😊 Cheers Diane
DeleteLovely to see you here Diane. I have a soft spot for the Morris also, was my first car, I loved the freedom it gave me, albeit not very fast 😀 Happy to hear that you will be heading home soon, take care not to overdo things when you get back ✨
ReplyDeleteI used to delight in holding up all the people in a hurry when driving my minor 😉 Weather for our return does not look good, think it is going to a rubbish drive. Take care Diane
DeleteThe entrance and building in the Devizes cemetery are very cool!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely building, I was impressed> Hope all is well. Diane
DeleteAs always, an inspiring assortment of photos in this post, Diane. Given the choice between the 'Moggy' Minor or the Porsche, I'm afraid that I'd have to choose the Moggy. I don't think, with my back, I'd be able to get in and out of the Porsche without dropping the roof, and the number of days it would be sensible to do that in England are a bit limited - especially at this time of year!
ReplyDeleteHow thoughful is George - arriving with those fabulous flowers!!
Have a safe journey home - - - - Richard
Richard I loved my Moggy but I also loved our 356 Porsche. No problems driving them in Africa lots of sunshine :-)
DeleteThe neighbour also brought us a bunch of tulips which are lovely. We are worried about the weather for our drive, it does not look good. Keep well Diane
A lovely collection of photos as always Diane. I am drawn to the row of houses in Bath. So much history... so many stories to be told.
ReplyDeleteThe old houses in Bath are stunnng, I love them as well. Keep well Diane
DeleteI don't know much about cars but I did get to see an impressive vintage Porsche collection recently in Austria.
ReplyDeleteWe went to the Porsche factory in Stuttgart, some years ago, wow what a great day. We were shown all over and had lunch with their dining room :-) Excellent. Cheers Diane
DeleteGreat photos, Diane! I love the cars and the architecture in Bath, plus the narrow boats. The dogs are cute, but I love the black cat! The flowers are very pretty! Have a good day. Take care
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam, hope all is well with you. Diane
DeleteInteresting places! Very well done.
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting place, so much history. Take care Diane
DeleteI love the photos (I especially like the Morris, I have a soft spot for vintage cars), such a pretty place. Must have been freezing to walk by the canal.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
It was not that cold by the canal in December/January the real cold has set in since we left and in February, Keep well Diane
DeleteHi Diane, nice to see all your photos even of the snow! I was in Paris in early January and I found the weather much warmer than Vancouver though it was grey and cloudy most of the time. I didn't mind because I had to do so much walking at the tourist sites. I'm now in Kenya where it is super hot and dusty. I see all the cold snaps in Europe and in North America and it seems so unreal since I'm in a heat wave. I also saw on the news that flowers are blooming and sun in shining in my hometown. That is a bit early for us so am not sure what will be happening when I get home. Take care and enjoy the remainder of your time in England.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of you being in Kenya. I only briefly visited it many years ago when flights were short and we stopped to refuel there...... I have seen so much of Africa from the North to the South, but very little at the top in either the West or the East. Enjoy while you can, Diane
